Friends recently moved down to Hobart and there a few places noted for workshops to go to, but wondering what others have had experience with and why they think that company is the best to go too.?

This is an ancient thread, but thought I'd chime in for any other Hobart based people.

Andrew Robinson is hands down the best VW mechanic in Hobart you could take your car to.
He's a one man operation, a true VW enthusiast and I'm fairly certain he's the APR dealer in Hobart.

Before a major service on my 103TDI MK6 Golf I went and spoke to both Jacksons VW (Hobart VW dealer) and Andrew Robinson for approximate quotes. The dealer quoted me $1500 MORE than Andrew for the major service and the consultant was smirking when he told me what it would cost. I'm glad he found it amusing that 3 year old car needs a $2500 service, because I certainly didn't.
