Exclamation Looking for a transmission specialist - Melbourne (preferably nth subs)

    Hey Guys

Apologies if somone else has previously answered what I am about to ask. I tried searching before posting but had no luck.

I have just recently bought a 99 GTI thinking the rattle noise under load in first gear was due to a leak in the exhaust system or something. This noise has since gotten louder and more consistent. After reading up on the common issues and seeking mechanical advise it seems the problem is most likely related to the transmission bearings.

Therefore I am now on the search for a transmission specialist (manual) who can help me out. At this stage I have no idea who I should be speaking to or how much it would cost me. Ideally i'd like to find someone in the northern suburbs, however I will travel for the right workshop if need be.

So guys if you have experienced this problem then please share your experience with me, or if you simply know who I should be speaking to then please share their contact details.

    Thanking you all in advance

    G'day skyquez,
I had the same problem with my 99 GTI, sounds like the main shaft has a little chip in it, common problem. My dad owns Volkwerke in Greensborough and i also work there so give us a call on 9435 1868 or drop in at factory 1/171 Para Rd Greensborough and we can give you a rough quote.

I have some GTI S/H gearboxes and some uprated Mk4 TDI units with good ratios if you cant sort it more locally.

We can courier to your door within 24 hours for peanuts.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

After many members recommending VW tech I have asked him to take a look at the GTI. If he is unable to fix for me, I may have to look at a workshop or replacement parts.

I'll be in touch over the next few days for a quote.

    Thanks
    skyquez
