I have allways serviced my mk4 at a local specialist (Wolfsburg motors in st peters) until last service when I was charged $10 x 2 for windshield washer fluid....

Never been charged that at any service before and it may seem a small
(ok it IS small) detail but I was pissed. I mean who would spend $20 on specialist fluid for their windshield washing mixture?!

Anyhow- I haven't written off local vw specialists completely. Just wanted a quote from a dealer people reccomended before likely going to autohaus one in alexandria.

Thats completely understandable, however VW Dealerships itself will charge you that if not more on same items and other items you havent even requested for.

So i wouldnt be complaing *TOO* much, yes was a bit petty what they have done but dealerships and their rates are a lot higher so you wil be paying almost double to go to a dealer. Its your choice in the end, especially if you enjoy apprentices working on your car majority of the time (in syd anyhow)

    Half true.

    2 reasons i say this.

1, my floor needs to be repainted and its only been a year but we havent had time due to influx of never ending customers and unable to stop to paint (and yes weekends too!) i tried for christmas break but we only closed for p/holidays argh! maybe end of the month or march. its killing me! although we might be moving shops now (bigger yet again) 2000sq current.

2, clean is good yes, but sometimes ppl are that busy they cant do it all themselves! (not the best reason but do-able) LOL.

The dealer model is wrong for me - too busy, too mnay cars, too formula-ised to really take the time to care for the needs of your car. They are great for fleet maintenance and for providing kids with a leg up into apprenticeships in the industry. They are required for warranty work and the servicing add-on supplements the workshop revenue to maintain the warranty capability.

It's good, but not good enough for me. It's like the difference between buying bread at a supermarket or from an artisan bakery, only the pricing difference is switched. No brainer for me.

I recently had my car serviced and took it to Autohaus Strecker in Alexandria ( http://www.autohaus.com.au/about-us.htm ) on teh advice of a friend, and i was happy with them. They were fast, cost less than i thought, and seemed to know what they were doing. Just my 5 cents...

I also need some recomendations for service... my preferred locations are around alexandria, so autohaus strecker is really closeby, or barloworld mascot, or vw village?

anyone with other recommendations? anyone with real prices? my service will be for the 1st year/15000km
