    Got a 118TSI manual.
Don't do that much stop start driving and love the feel of the manual box. Plus being a poor Uni student saving 3000 for moving my left arm a bit more sounded like a good deal!

DSG for me. I've normally preferred manuals in the past, but my wife has back trouble and can't drive a manual in traffic for long. I found the DSG to be a good compromise for people who prefer manuals but must have an auto. People who like autos will complain that it's not as smooth. I like the responsive driveability - even in the 90TSI

Deliberated for months and then decided DSG
I've only ever driven manuals and despise automatics. This DSG although technically is an auto, behaves so differently. Smooth, fast, manual mode, sport mode, D mode. I've only done 8000km but am yet to regret the DSG. It is truly an amazing gearbox and am really glad I got it over the manual. Before I bought the R I had 2 wrx's (manual) and whenever I would look at an R32 and see the DSG shift I would roll my eyes and think why. It should be a manual. Now that I own a DSG equipped R I understand why most go for it. Simply brilliant!!

    Manual for me

All my previous cars had been manual, decided to go auto with the last one.. Hated it.. It was boring.. Even with a flappy paddle gearbox, I still yearned for the spirited feeling of a clutch and shifter.

My car is 5 months young and just hit 10,000kms the other day.. I do a lot of driving around for work in Sydney traffic.. I can say the manual gearbox is fantastic!

...Out of curiosity, can someone tell me how much the DSG service is???

Agree with brimway, it will be nice to have one of each.

I have never had an automatic car but for GTI i chose DSG for the following reasons:
    - I love the way it farts
    - It's kind of manual as well

On my MKV GTI, was only the 60,000km service that was pricey but the advantages and fun from the DSG far outweigh any costs. Manual just seems so boring in comparison

I went DSG, and to be frank ( cause he is kewl) it was the reason I went with the Golf over the others in the class as they only come in manual. I really enjoy just how smooth the gear change is and the almost linear delivery of power.

The days of the manual are numbered, so for those that embrace them enjoy while you can

I've only ever owned manuals, and I've never driven an auto that I liked. So when the choice of manual or DSG came along I wasn't willing to risk disliking the DSG and being stuck with it, even though it sounded like it was probably okay. Whereas with a manual I knew I'd be happy.

DSG for me, had my share of manuals and autos over the years. DSG just something a little different. Started driving autos because the cars I had didn't make them in manuals.

Have no real bias either way except to say I'm not disappointed in my choice this time round. Next set of wheels just might be a manual.
