For what it's worth dave_r, that Liqui Moly oil is what I had Derek at European Autotech put in my R when I had the Stage 2+ upgrade done at ~3k. I decided on that after reading some stuff here and talking to peeps such as Transporter, and I was going to buy it from Motoractive and give it to Derek when I asked him if that would be ok, and he said "No... cause I already stock it here and have been using it for a while". lol... so I just got it from him instead. I also grabbed another 5L container from Derek so that I could do another change later on...

(plus, I have a filter and sump plug which I got from the spares desk at my dealer...)

4.6L with the filter. Bit less without. Always replace the filter when you change the oil (it's cheap).

Job done yesterday, actually a mate did the hard work. Interesting filter setup, last time I did one was on a jap car 10yrs ago hehe. I'm sure others already know but if you're doing it, save yourself the pain and buy the proper filter drain tool. Great idea, zero mess.

Don't keep my cars that long and I'm sure it probably is ok going to 15k but for the sake of ~$100 why not. Plus the car just feels nicer knowing the abused and blackened oil was replaced with nice new stuff hehe. Easy 10kw for sure!

Have read all through this thread and just have one question for the experts (Transporter, Cogdoc?), should I do an oil & filter change before the first 15000k service? I need this car (B7 Passat TDI) to do at least 150000k's and want to maximise it's life. Don't care if it costs me more to do extra oil services (I'll do them myself), rather do that than not. I just can't get my head around not changing the original oil until 15000k's! But if you guys reckon it's fine, then I'll leave it (maybe ). Thanks for any advice.

According to VW who designed and engineered your car, no, not unless your driving conditions are considered harsh as defined in your car's manual.

GTI MY10. What type of oil?

    Hi all,

Pretty new to this as well as new to Golfs. Just wondering what type of oil is correct for my GTI Mk6, 2010. VW told me a fully synthetic Castrol 5W-30 which is specifically for VW and it is advised to get it at a dealer but I can't help thinking this is just to try and make an extra buck. They quoted me 1 litre for $29.04. Grateful for any input, I'm in Sydney.
