I've put a bottle or two of their top end engine oil additive stuff through my TDI with no ill effect, but you do have to wonder at what point they are snake oil....

    Oil Filters

    Hi all,

I'm about to change the oil in my trusty Mk6 and oils wise I think I'm going to go Shell Helix 5W-30 (on special at the moment) or Mobil 1.

But what about the filter? Does it make any real difference which one you use? Is the $20 repco kit as good as anything else? If not, what are the enthusiasts puting in their engines?

    Cheers

The oil must meet the vw standard you can't just chuck in whatever 5w30 is on special. Use the genuine filter they are not that expensive.

I use the Castrol powerflow slx you can buy from the spare parts counter at vw, with the filter it comes in around $100

Stay away from the aftermarket filters from Repco, Supercheap Auto and many others. The oil filter from the dealer is inexpensive and there is not reason to use anything else.

Please don't ask the same question in multiple places, or start threads to ask the same thing you've already asked in an existing thread on the topic. It just makes work for moderators and means people waste time answering things which were already answered...

... and when one of those people who answered is also a moderator who then merges your thread, well then, that's just twice the time wasted now isn't it

I merged your thread here reddc5r. The Golf R ain't any different to any other Golf, or VAG for that matter, in its oil requirements.

Since when? Everything points to them using synthetic for the factory fill across the range, the R isn't some special hand built machine and comes off the same line as the other cars with engines built to the same tolerances.

Actually everything points to them coming prefilled with Castrol Syn Longlife.

    Volkswagen

    Copied from above link

The approved list says the Liqui Moly TOP TEC 4200 is 50400/50700

    But the link says differently?
    http://www.liqui-moly.com.au/products/motor-oil/
    Audi/VW group 500.00 / 501.01 / 502.00 / 505.00 / 505.01 / 503.00 / 503.01 / 506.00 / 506.01

    What am I missing?
