The 550NM 7 speed DSG that Sharkie talks of is what is being used in the new Audi RS5 and RS3 etc too. Having a higher torque rating as standard probably means you'd be good to 700 to 800Nm from the thing... I mean, even the Golf R Stage III torque rating of 515Nm is within the stock capability of that gearbox without requiring DSG reflashes or clutch packs. It also allows LC at up to 6500rpm (from what I've been told).
So it would be a cool gearbox to have... but can't see it happening in the Golf until the MK7.
It's good that the Tiguan has it though :)
I thought the Audi one was only for longitudinal setups while the VW's are transverse applications?
Yeh I mentioned the LC on the RS5 as we were doing it last week. Held 6000rpm and side stepped the clutches (felt like it). I don't want another gear, I want 6000rpm LC!
Yeah - originally it was only for longitudinal setups, but as of the Tiguan (and Transporter? I don't know, that's beyond my area of knowledge) they have been adapted for transverse use too.
