    Whir/knock from front (drive shaft?)

    Hi all yesterday noticed a rythmic whirring coming from the passenger front. When you turn its more noticeable.

    think I have a on the way out drive shaft on the passenger side. Anyone replaced one before? Are they hard? I have replace them on Other cars but now VWs.

    anything I should know?? That's all

    Won't be a driveshaft. They only knock at full lock.

    Maybe look at the hub bearings, or the way the tyre is wearing.

    Hub bearing was my other thought. It get a little louder when I turn right (noise on left). I put the car in neutral when driving and revved it but the noise stayed the same. It does get louder the faster you drive.

    its not the tyre I had already moved the tyre to the rear when but the noise stays at the same corner.

    Sounds like a bearing, turning will transfer weight onto it and change how much/hard it's rubbing and the noise it makes.

    Hey guys the fact my car 2011 golf has only don't 40,000km make any difference??

    Alrighty problems sorced and fixed over the weekend. It was the hub bearing. Quite an easy install and fix actually.

    In 1954 I bought a new Triumph TR2 — a very flash green (BRG) roadster.

    It had a left rear wheel bearing failure in its first fortnight — not covered by warranty (very little was in those days, and what little we did get ran out in 1000 miles.).

    The part from Standard Cars was over three quid ($6 — quite a lot in those days, half a week's wages for most of us.)

    I walked into a nearby store (E A Machin. anyone remember them?) and found the same bearing for 17/6 ($1.75.)

    Took me about 25 minutes to replace and it was still in the car when I sold it 60,000 miles further on.

    The same car had its plugs replaced after two days and the replacements failed in the same time (turned out to be the fuel we were being inflicted with (pool petrol — we never knew which pool they pumped it out of, but it stank.)) The fix here (again at my own expense) was a set of Lodge platinum tipped plugs and a gallon of Benzol in each fill. Fortunately the wartime economy fuel system ended the next year.

    Drivers today don't know what they're missing!
