From my perspective, the best mods I did (in order of preference) were:
- Stage 1 tune: OMG there is just no comparison to the improvement in driver enjoyment this offers over stock!
- Golf R Tails: aesthetically a huge improvement
- Autopolar FIS+ Advanced: a device that gives you hundreds of sensor values across many pages in the MFD
- Rims: Denvers and Detroits are just done to death
- VCDS tweaks: turn on all the cool features that should have been enabled on the car from factory!
- OEM LED license plate lights: for a bit of extra clean bling
- Aluminium door sill protectors and seat handle inserts: as The_Hawk suggests, these lend some real class to the car
- Boot screens for the RNS-510: it's the little things that put a smile on your face when you get in the car
- Audi R8 coil packs: if you tune, get these for peace of mind

It's interesting to see how the general opinion of the Omanyt has changed over time. When they were first introduced on later build Mk5 R32s people hated them ("vanilla" would have been quite the compliment), but these days they're seen much more favourably - as an OEM rim anyway.
As for me, I don't mind something a bit more conservative (who would'a thought it?), as long as it's a point of difference from the crowd. Car personalisation should be all about reflecting your own preferences and style! I will add that a tasty set of OZs also rank very highly in my estimation of style.

I used to think I was anal-retentive until I started getting involved in car forums
What exhaust plus downpipe would you guys recommend for a r? I wanted to get the ipe or the armytrix but they are just about out of my price range, but I just love the way they sound. Anything similar? Car is tuned already but would like a nice sound.

Thanks adam
Found a milltek exhaust and downpipe, just confused on what to get as it comes in two sizes
2.75" or 3" for the catback, the dp will be 3" but the rest I'm not sure. Any help guys?
On the topic of things... My fav mod would have to probably be coilovers. Ride great for daily, get me pretty low and handle decent too. An all round winner.
Runners up, would have to be my 12k hids and a must for every car I've ever owned (regardless of how hectic it sounds lol) is a subwoofer.
