This thread is definitely an eye opener, I thought I might be changing to a more discreet option in the mk6 GTI a little early in life at 28... but clearly not!
As per most I would fall under the "professional" umbrella. Changing to the GTI from an EVO VIII and can't wait to blend into traffic againTaking delivery next week I hope.

Blending into traffic . . . lol . . . think you must be kidding. Fraid the GTI's stick out like the . . . well you know.
My work mates know that I'm buying a GTI and they now report seeing lots of them. Or at least report they are so easily recognised. They hate me for it.
Ex- 2010 Golf GTI
Ex - 2015 Skoda Yeti
Soon - 2016 Tiguan
But that's the thing.... average people don't even give a second look at a GTI (unless it's red) unless you point it out to them... only THEN do they stand out!

Its a subjective thing for sure... The scowls you get in a big wing, knee chopping front bar canard wearing EVO are an experience. You could be cruising along at 10 below the limit but are you most definitely a "hoon" in the eyes of Joe Public regardless.
Most important thing for me is that I won't sacrifice all the fun and performance of the EVO in the GTI and I'll feel 100 times more comfortable day to day.
