Glad I'm not alone. I thought I had a ad fitting sunroof. I've never experienced that buffeting on an OEM anywhere near as bad as the golf. Bit disapointed so I just use the raised setting rather than slide and end up with ear ache.

like was suggested, you can crack a rear window a bit and it significantly reduces.

Or don't open the OEM roof all the way. If you turn the dial 7 notches (so, the last of the fixed positions before holding the dial to open the roof fully), you won't get the buffeting.

nup, doesn't work, it still has a deep drone at the last non spring position generally. Guess it depends on wind direction and speed travelled.

I drive with my sunroof open in that position about 90% of the time (doesn't rain that much in Adelaide, heh), and don't get a drone or buffeting in that position. However, if you open any of the windows (including the driver's window more than an inch or so), that will affect it significantly and you'll get issues. It's also quite loud above about 75km/h.

Wind buffeting is a problem not only in aftermarket but factory roofs as well , I fitted Brimways roof and we always have a worry in the back of our mind about that problem . The advise given by some posters is correct the buffeting can vary from car to car and speeds , normally stopping the roof before it reaches the full open is the best way as speed increases the buffeting may stop and you can open it the last bit . Opening a rear window sometimes helps as it removes the pressure build up which is what causes the buffeting , wind is coming in and it then tries to go back out against the incoming with buffeting the result . Some years ago when Jaguar released the XJ series they had a shocking problem and cured it by attaching a small rubber strip on the rear edge of the pop up wind deflector . The latest VE commodore also had the same issue and they redesigned the deflector by creating a "castleated" top it has small high and lo spots which breaks up the wind flow Audi did the same thing with one of the early series as well . Its bizzare that all the money spent on designing and testing and they miss that important problem . Out of interest my VW Transporter T5 has the sunroof same as Brimways and for some reason it is so quiet at speeds up to and over 100 kmh you can hold a normal conversation without noise . I had a customer in the van a few weeks ago and he commented that my van which he described as having the aerodynamics of a brick {bastard} was the quietist car with a sunroof in that he had ever been in and he owned many cars that had factory sunroofs as well . The van has a steep raked windscreen and it tends to deflect the wind up and over the sunroof , cars are more streamlined and that is why some can get buffeting .

Snapped some pics of my latest acquisitions - new coil pack from tigger73's group buy, and a 3" 42DD dump pipe (ceramic coated) and 3.5" 42DD polished tips from Greg @ Carformance.

^ looks good dutch77. I also have the 42DD downpipe and its a nice piece. Good to see you opted for the resonator because it sounds much nicer with it.

The red coils and new plugs add 20kw immediately They look good though. You will probably notice your car idles better and pulls smoother with the new coils and plugs too.

I wish i could have gotten matching 42DD tips to match my downpipe but unfortunately they only announced the new range of tips recently and i had already purchased some Magnaflow ones about 6 months ago. Im not going to change them now though.

Yeah I remember seeing your build thread around the time I was ordering giving it the thumbs up, which certainly was a positive given most of the glowing reviews were ex USA. Certainly looks the goods, although the Speaker of the House wasn't so amused to see it displayed on the dining/pool table!

The car presents don't stop this week either yet, my new wheels should arrive some time today.

Haha re: coils. All going on next week with the pipe, tune and wheels. I ummed on the tips for a while (at one point was considering replacing the whole exhaust), then decided I was quite happy with something sounding stock but still looking good standing still.
