Thread: What Accessories are you buying for your MK6 Golf?

  1. #1301

Just installed these door sill protectors ordered from a Chinese eBay seller.

If anyone is thinking of getting them, here's my experience - Overall, the quality is very good, but as most things like this.. the fitting is not quite 100% (fronts are fine, rears not so much). They came with double sided tape attached, but I had to buy some more tape and cover all of the back to get them to stick well. They seem quite well attached now but have a feeling they may come off one day. Looks good and very functional if your prone to getting the sills scratched by boots.

PS - the dent marks are from me hammering them - they arrived bent in the mail. Seller is sending new ones FOC.

Has anyone had any experience with aftermarket weather visors? I see this set available, attached using tape. wondering if this is a reliable system for external accessories. Also would the shields interfere with my Thule roof-racks, which are pin-located in the front.
This is the description of the visors

I have bought the genuine vw weathershields for my gtd and they are very secure. They are not as cheap as the ones on ebay but they are effective and come with good installation instructions. They are also tinted. I haven't had any experience with non genuine ones.

Genuine ones are affixed with 3M tape as well. Just need to make sure the surface is super clean with metho/similar and attach them on a sunny/hot day, then don't drive for 5 hours as per what the dealer told me.

erm not really, think they were around $110 to $160 for 4, a rip off I know. Just phone the parts dep't and ask. Annoying thing was I only wanted 2 (front ones) while the car was serviced. I came back to find they'd charged me for 4 and just the back ones in the boot without as much as a phone call to ask (at which point I probably would've just got them to whack all 4 on or possibly said no to all of them).

i got mine thrown in with the car, but they were about $120 i think, mine are for the 2 door.
as mentioned, attached using 3m double sided tape. mine came loose after a few months, so i bought the super hold double sided tape from bunnings and stripped the old tape and applied the new stuff and cleaned the door using rubbing alcohol. so far it hasnt budged in over a year of driving in all conditions.

    great advice, cheers.

Likely I'll go ahead with the imports and buy some tape from bunnings up front. I'll post about the quality/experience.

Just ordered some chrome tips for my tailpipes, $61 including $12 freight.
Here's the link. I'll let the forum know what I think of these too.

Another quick cosmetic upgrade I've just done is these carbon fibre mirror caps (replacement caps, not covers). Purchased from a VIC ebayer - Autotunez for $229 delivered. Great quality and cheaper than the OSIR ones everyone goes on about (although the clips are not a strong as the OEM ones - so be careful when installing!) Looks great if you've got a Candy white GTI!

Was annoyed to find that someone has stolen the plastic caps that go on the wheel nuts on one of my wheels today. Will have to find some replacements.
