I was hoping, even expecting to find lots of evidence of this on YouTube, but only came across the following:

I had a quick look at a VW dealer last weekend and was a little miffed to see a 118 TSI there with the GTI-style DSG shifter (good for them, I guess, but that doesn't help me)

Anyway I spotted one for sale here:
VW GTI Gearknob Cover DSG - RHD - 5K2713203E

I know there's been discussion here or elsewhere before, but I've got a migrane right now and don't want to search, so I'll just ask if anyone has retrofitted it successfully? Also, is it exactly like your GTI/R shifter, as something about the picture doesn't look quite right (perhaps the colours).

Depends on your bikes a bit... cheap bikes are less fragile....the nicer the bike the more fragile - road or MTB..
Behind the car bike racks tend to let bikes swing & rub, crush frame tubes, dirty roads cover them in road grime, exhaust can melt / burst tyres and dips (driveways and the like) can jam the bike into the road. Check the frames will allow both bikes to fit: Funny top tubes can hang the bike at strange angles and foul somehow or another. I've seen all these give grief.

Owned and used many over 25 yrs + as a mad cyclist (been building mtb frames since 2006 too) and good roof systems are likely worth the cost...but yes keep up in mind always!

Really happy with the Rola bars with Tuhle 591...super solid & reliable, keeps wheels out of the car, quick to use and easy on the bike and you're right expensive...so are panel beaters and new bikes. Mind fancy MTB suspension frames will accept the clamp.

If anyone wants to get DSG paddles on their Golf on the cheap (relatively) but is concerned about preserving the look of their car, I've found this on eBay:

VW GOLF 6 VI 6+ VI+ POLO AIRBAG & STEERING WHEEL DSG!!!! | eBay

There's only 2 days left though, so make your mind up quickly

Ethosguy, thanks for the information. Bikes are; (mine) Apollo Allegro, (wife's) Apollo Exceed, both flat-bar road bikes. It looks like there are anti-sway clamps on the rack. It also looks like it would locate the bike wheels sufficiently far from the exhaust to avoid any issues. But I'd certainly like to see one in the flesh before I make any decision either way.

i was looking to get the clear sill protector for my golf R. the dealer just said that they have had a few people come back with bubbling and is advising against adding it to the car. Is this common issue?
