Yep exactly what I want to do in October, I too have an R with the Dynaudio option. I absolutely don't want to lose any dynamics of the Dynaudio, but want to upgrade the head unit and sell the RCD510
I've seen the RNS on Ebay for about 900 - 1000 and then I guess you'd make about 350 from the sale of the RCD. Also want to check that despite not having the OEM shark fin aerial the thing will work fine through the dash with no issues...
This also means you can run DVD's and video in motion right?
Also, seems pretty easy to install but then I just need to pop round to someone with VCDS...
All correct?
Cheers

The RNS510 will work fine without the MFD nav display until you recode using VCDS. Once you recode using VCDS, you can turn on the nav function in your MFD and all will be fine. Just remember that for about the first 10-15 minutes of driving with the maps, it'll all go haywire while it's calibrating, so don't panic, it'll fix itself.
Installation instructions are here (note the coding instructions near the end): HOW TO: Retrofit an RNS510 Sat Nav System.

In theory, nope (I don't have Dynaudio). The guide I linked to specifically mentions a Dynaudio setting there that you can toggle, and I'm sure there must be at least one person with dynaudio who's done the upgrade. For ultimate peace of mind, consider posting in the Car Audio section of the forums (you might find someone else with Dynaudio who's done it).

Thanks Ryan....
Just a little nervous about also affecting the brilliant Bluetooth integration as well but I guess I'll look it all up in the car audio section.
One daft question, does the RNS510 still have the six disc changer like the RCD?
Appreciated

No, the RNS510 is a single DVD slot. No changer. You CAN attach a 6 disc changer to it. It needs to go in the centre console arm rest, where the MDI would normally go. I don't know whether you can have the MDI and 6 disc changer together.
Not that I'm sure why you'd want to.
As far as I'm concerned, if you have the RNS510 and you feel the need/want to have a 6 disc changer.... then you're doing it wrong
The RNS510 has a 30GB hard-drive anyway, so you can store all your CDs on it.

10GB is reserved for maps - so only ~20GB available. Also, you can only copy digital files from CD/DVD (slow) or SD card (quicker, depending on the speed of your SD card). You can't rip audio CDs to the HDD. You can also play DVD videos, although the screen will blank out when you exceed ~5mph for safety reasons (this can be disabled but might be illegal). If you have music/concert DVDs though it's good. Just don't stick karaoke DVDs in there - no-one wants to hear the result of that
