I've installed rear mudflaps on my Golf. You do have to remove the wheel, and then there's a few screws that go into holes in the wheelarch, plus you have to make a few holes yourself underneath. You get a double-sided A4 sheet with diagrams, but no real written instructions. You'll need a Torx (T20 I think) screwdriver as well.

RNS 510 also gives you the ability to watch DVDs (while parked or moving < ~7kph) and has the 30GB HDD (20 GB for music, 10 for maps). I've copied all of my music to the HDD and can add more via SD card or CD/DVD, but truth be told I haven't used the CD drive in ages. The RNS510 might not be as good as portable navigators, but nothing beats having the maps only one button-push away.

    Thanks for that...
Called to find out the price to install mudflaps - it was $150 for labor plus $195 for set of 4 mudflaps... Jesus Christ !!! - almost $350 for mudflaps, are you kidding me???

Been thinking about just replacing RCD310 that came with the car with RCD510 (not RNS510) - not sure if it's really worth the hassle?

Hey mate, have you got a pic of it? You're right but.. Doesn't need to be perfect, just as long as it protects the original carpet.. Cheers

I also like the feeling of having my wallet with an extra $3,500 too!

I have a massive list posted on the newbies section. But beside engine mods I'm planning of getting carbon trims and ordered static corner fog lights. Sucks how with the 2011 Mk6 Comfortline doesn't come standard with the fog lights.

Give me credit - I'd never spend that much on it. I bought it off eBay for $1000 and fitted it myself to my *second-hand* 118-TSI, so I think I'm well ahead as far as money spent goes.

What is the difference between RCD510? Thinking about changing standard RCD310 to RCD510 and found some on eBay, however I've noticed two different versions.

UK Version has "Radio, Media, Phone, TIM, TP, Setup" buttons
US & AUS Version has "FM, AM, =>, Media, Phone, Setup" buttons

Plus on UK VW website there are 3 versions (and none on AUS VW ):

    RCD 510 CD / Radio - MP3 and DAB Compatible (3C8057195A)
    RCD 510 CD / Radio - MP3 Compatible - Touchscreen (3C8057195)
    RCD 510 CD / Radio - Touchscreen - Reversing Camera Capable (3C8057190)

What's the difference between them and would US and UK version work here in AUS?
Or should I be looking at getting local version? Pretty sure that the VW dealer would charge out of its brain for it, I'm guessing over a grand... so no way I'm getting it from them...

The first one supports DAB (digital radio in Europe). In Australia we sort-of skipped the first version of DAB and use DAB+, so that feature is pretty useless here.

    The second one is fine.

The third one has a port on the back for connecting the VW reversing camera (which you obviously don't have). No harm in getting it if you reckon you might retrofit one (not the easiest of DIY tasks).

The TP button stands for Traffic Program, but we don't have that here either (well, not compatible with the RCD/RNS).

I recommend it. It's a simple installation that finishes off the interior of the car very nicely and it's an easier device to use, especially when driving (IMO). I doubt you'd regret it.

If there's one thing I miss from the RCD310 it's the Radio Text that told you the song info and weather on the main radio stations. I was really hoping a firmware update would restore that feature to the RNS510. I have no idea if the RCD510 has it or not.
