That's not normal mate, I'd go get it resealed under warranty. I could take a photo of one at work tomorrow if you still wanted
Anyone keen to take off their plastic engine cover and check for me, please, that their GTI is/is not weeping oil along the inlet side of the camshaft cover.
I've a slight weep, along the entire length of said cover. Enough to collect bugs/dust etc. and shiny enough to be 'not usual'.
Exhaust side, no issues.
Thanks in advance,
Stu

Long story short, dealer service department advised 'sweating/weeping' doesn't justify rectification under warranty. If it develops into a 'substantial leak' that would make the car unroadworthy under Road Regs, then they will fix the issue.
There ya go! Leave it with me......I'll update you all.

I'd expect any dealer worth his salt to have at least cleaned the oil off and re-torqued the cover — don't know about the GTI, having never looked at one, but oil weeping due to gasket compression isn't unusual on many engines.
Once started it usually gets worse — as a rule, re-torqueing the hold-down screws immediately the oil shows will stop it.
Maybe your dealer prefers to fix faults rather than prevent them?
Pretty certain the goo used to seal the cam cover doesn't actually ever dry. It will always be tacky, hence collecting bugs, dirt, etc.
When new-ish, it'll be a red colour. Have a snoop around other areas of the cam cover, that aren't as dirty, and see for yourself.

Mines being replaced under warranty, they're replacing the "rocker cover gasket, tandem pump and pressure regulating valve". I have a leak all across the front and from the right hand side (right hand side when looking at the engine so the passenger side of the car). Leak isn't enough to go far though. I'll post some photos (with the cover on) before and after the repair later.

Yeah, it's a different goo these days. Not sure how many engine variations it applies to, though.

Just lifted the plastic cover.....after a good de-grease, she is still weeping.
Seems my dealer is going to be busy fixing the weep/wastegate noise/rear suspension rattle and B pillar creaks on Oct 4.
