I've never trusted those japanese tests because in each of the car there are different drivers. So I would say if they are close enough to each other across the finishing line, take it with a bit of salt.
Also, if you watch most of them, you'll notice discrepencies between their comparisons in different episodes when they race the same model cars.

From that pic above, headroom around the back seats of the Roc seems pretty low.

I think you guys are all proving that VWA were stupid to think that the scirocco will steal sales from the Golf. It seems pretty clear that they appeal to two completely different types of people.

that's cool. so you wouldnt take 5 V8 supercar racers from the same era, racing different cars against each other, seriously...

    that's cool.

or is it coz you dont know what they're saying?

because i translated the in-cabin commentary when i posted that vid around tsukuba.

lol..... the japanese had more to prove, than some VW forum from another hemisphere.... im sure they'd be flattered. send 'em an email!

basically, regarding your trust of their ability to slaughter any driver you WOULD trust, around a track, having hailed from japanese F1...

you should tell them "i never trusted you, because i like my recent purchase".

to which they would reply (in japanese, mind you): hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

    the 'rocco won. sorry.

(if you really need to know, the drivers actually had a bet on that day, for that night. pm me if you're really that keen on learning japanese. でしょう?).

I don't. 4/5 door hatches suck (IMO). I'll never own one. I've said before, if you _really_ need a 5 door hatch, you need a wagon! hehe
This doesn't mean that you can't have a great looking 3 door hatch which is also practical. Practical for me meaning being able to throw some furniture, or a quad speaker guitar cabinent, or a heap of computer equipment, or 4 mates, into the car, on the odd occasion you need to.

The Scirocco just can't do that. So you may as well have a "real" 2 door coupe, such as a BMW 135i. That has more boot space than the Scirocco

Which brings us to, "When does a hatch become a wagon?" And, "Why does the convenience of being able to open the rear doors for access mean it also has to be a wagon?" I thought people wanting a wagon would be looking for a longer luggage area.

Every day I'm opening the rear doors of both our cars to put things on the back seat and my wife does the same, and after having had the inconvenience of accessing the rear seat in a 2 door hatch we hired we know what suits us. Try dropping off 2 kids at school in a 2 door car with 2 adults who don't want to get out in the rain and you'll soon appreciate 4 doors. Also what we have found is the useable luggage space of our Golf hatch is almost identical to our Forester wagon.

Well that only tells you how much the Subaru Forester sucks. The Golf wagon has heaps more luggage space than the Golf hatch.
Interestingly, the Golf 3 door hatch has more rear seat space than the Golf 5 door hatch

Probably the best conclusion that can be drawn directly from this thread

Corey, I NEVER want to have to park a wagon in the city or a shpping center and I find the Golf (previously Ford Focus and Peugeot 306) sized car perfectly adequate for transporting my family (and previously all my race gear for my GP bike). And having had a 3 door car for the 1st 6 months of transporting my child, I'll take 5 doors any day.
Plus where can you buy a BMW 135i for a bit less than the price of a Golf (because that's what a Sirocco is worth o/s)

But I wasn't complaining about the luggage room in either of them and the only sucking that has gone on is our Golf's sucking of 3l of oil before its first oil change. So in that way the Forester hasn't sucked at all. ps sorry for getting off topic.

Mate, I still have Forester (didn't sell it yet) but I can put much more luggage in Forester than in Golf5, and the Golf6 luggage space look the same to me.
