IF you need a 5 door car because of kids or because you need to put stuff in the back? buy a sedan. 3 doors over 5 doors anyday.
Does a sedan allow me to easily carry passengers in the back seats and a dog in the boot? Certainly not legally. A 5-door hatch gives me a small car with the convenience of a much larger vehicle.
The hatchback was never conceived as a 3-door-only contraption. To state otherwise is absurd.
The door is not "said" to be longer, it is a fact that it is longer. 5 doors actually make both doors to small for the car, if you don't need the extra 2 doors majority of the time, there is really no point getting 5 doors.
Yes, the doors are shorter on a 5-door. Much easier to open in tight garages and carparks, and much easier to load the back seat.
I'm not attacking the 3-door, since there are some advantages, but convenience is not one of them.
