This is what I mean. Its a different car, for a different market. I wouldnt buy one either. And no I would not cancel my R order for one of these.

Same reason I wasnt into the Focus. There was a time I didnt mind this sort of thing. And I do like it in a way. Mad front end. But for my coin, its gotta be something nice and simple for every day. Otherwise I would have bought an STI!!

But I dont see why we you would be asking R owners If we would change?? Obviously a lot of people would'nt, which is exactly what I suspected.

Its a new model, introduce it talk about it. Compare it even as thats fair game, but then be done I reckon.

Or ask GTI 3 door owners If they would have gotten it instead????

If I do change my mind I'll let you know.

Also, You know the Roc is cheaper than the R in the UK.. By 2000 pounds.

Will it be more here I wonder?

people won't "regret" they are getting the golf R, but i know a few people who wanted the scirocco R but VWAUS said they were definitely not bringing them in, therefore went for the Golf R instead. At the end of the day the Golf R should be the better car, therefore regret would be minimal, it wouldn't be as bad as those who ordered the gti days/weeks before the Golf R was announced lol

Scirocco R is a beautiful car though, plus it doesn't have 6-7 different models under it which looks practically the same!!!

As for the practicality, people make it sound like the scirocco is alot smaller than the golf, when it is not. Yes it is 4 seats compared to 5. BUT people who buy the Scirocco R would be the same people who buy the Golf range in 3 doors, they don't intend for the backseat to be used regularly.

The scirocco would be even more focused on the singles/couples who don't intend to have any children, which would make it rarer in australia which isn't a bad thing at all.

My 2c. I think the Golf R actually looks better than the Sirocco. The front of the Sirrocco is great. The back is very awkward. Almost verging on the same awkardness as the last gen Renault Megane.

Pretty unfair to SilvrFoxX when his reference to "a load" was to den25 saying

IF you need a 5 door car because of kids or because you need to put stuff in the back? buy a sedan. 3 doors over 5 doors anyday.
I've stated that I'd prefer a Sirocco the a 3 door Golf (like den525) in another thread but that's my preference as I personally find 5 door cars MUCH more practical than 3 doors EXCEPT for the very good point you made about the 5 door B pillar blocking visibility. Then again, I'm not that tall (~170cm) which is possibly why I find the Golf 5 door passenger side vision better than my previous 5 door Focus.

As for the 3 door being more rigid than the 5 door, the Sirocco would be more rigid again (possibly a factor in the lap times posted as well as the lighter weight) so it's more 'practical' in that sense.

I thought the same until I saw some driving around in Singapore - it looks much more a complete package in the metal IMO.

And to those comparing the Sirocco to a Beetle?? That's really unfair as the Beetle is all about pose and fake chic while the Sirocco at least has it's own identity.

Also I think Scirocco IS a better looking car.
However, after watching lots of european reviews and comparo's on the 'Roc, a common comment is the distinct difference in internal size.
It appears to be marketed towards the singles/CWOK markets.
Love the rounded arches especially back 3/4.

I took these couple of shots in Germany earlier this year. After seeing it in the metal I was very underwhelmed. It looks like a Golf that stayed just that bit too long in the microwave and melted it's ar5e off.

Anyway each to his own, I wont be changing my order (even though I just found out today that it has slipped from a Feb delivery to a March one).

The next thing is, the Scirocco is a completely differerent car:
    1) It's 3 door only
    2) Beyond the 3 door only, it's 4 seat only. The space in the rear is substantially thinner, and there is not even a "bench" between the two rear seats. In other words, if you have two adults in the back, their arms will possibly touch each other. (see picture below)
    3) The boot is also substantially smaller, and load through even less useful than the Golf's, due to the much thinner opening and shorter boot and seats which fold even less flat.
    4) The Scirocco R is only FWD.

So this thread should really be titled Any Golf GTI 3 door buyers thinking of swapping?
In any case, my answer is no.

corey, i thought you didnt advocate 4 door hatches?

and anyway... according to a showdown at tsukuba raceway (youtube was in japanese, i posted it a while ago), the scirocco beats the mitsu evo X, beats the STI, beats the civic R japan spec, beats the golf R.

i dont get it, mate- you're all about space and function, yet in other threads you're all about how crap 4 door hatches are, because they're just not sporty, and who piles 5 peeps into their hatch most of the time anyway?

    i love it!

the test's been done. the 'rocco is a better car. sorry.......

    it's just a simple fact....
