I agree with REXman; perception and reputation of the 'hero' model will drive interest and sales, so it's facts that get reported (let's say lap times in this case) which help establish a car's performance reputation.

Just look at how Nissan used its Nordscheife lap time to sell the GTR. It may not affect sales of 5dr models but could affect sales of whichever car becomes the hero model of the range.

Though it's up to individuals to do their research, test drives etc to make the rational or irrational decision that fits their needs! :p
Bizi's Jetta TDI: Blue Graphite w. factory leather & tint, plus + Enkei Racing NT03+M + Yokohama S Drive 18s, Koni FSD, Neuspeed coils, GTI RSB + brakes, InPro mirrors, VW navi, Modshack. Come for a drive through the twisties on Saturdaze.

Saw some Scirocco in flesh overseas recently and IMO they look awesome. Pity about the interior being so similar to the Golf though.

YouTube - Scirocco R @ Nordschleife Just like to appreciate some nice driving of this Roc, i can't believe you can just drive there and pay a quick fee and take your ride around the legendary circuit.

Not withstanding the quite successful RX8 (style, exicution and sales) the 5 dr Roc comment was taking the p!ss for 'entertainment value only' if that detail got lost in the ether...

There are however, of a different niche, the Porsche (stop beating me with the ugly stick...I'm not a 911 varient...I'm not, really) Panamera, and Aston Rapide arguing the corner for the 5dr sports coupe...

Did it myself in a Mk5 GTI in 2008, worth every Euro (was a bloody lot of them with the car hire). If you ever get the chance, DO IT

    8,000 euro excess...

Oh, and you can't take a normal rental car on the track, the rental companies have spotters there apparently. You need a specialist 'Ring rental company, this is the one I used : Rent Racecar Nurburgring Nordschleife Rental Car Selfdrive as you can see, pricey...
