Exclamation VW Golf VI: reliability issues ? real or not ?

    Hi there,
I am a VW lover and am about to purchase the 118TSi w/ DSG.
When I saw the specs of the engine (1.4L delivering such power & torque) I immediately fell in love... until now...

I have been checking a few websites to find out what people think about the new Golf VI. I was really disappointed by the comments made on this website:
    http://www.caradvice.com.au/51594/vo...iew-road-test/

People complain about NOISE and would also point the finger at the 1.4L engine which would be too "stressed out" by the Turdo and Supercharge.

    Here is what they say:
"I am not worried so much about the noise, although I do find it extremely loud and annoying, but what the noise is coming from – it is a noise of friction (engagement) so it is definitely a wearing noise."

"Generally good cars, just don’t know if it last as long as it looks."

"Check out the previous reviews on this same site for a listen to all the unhappy owners who bought a quiet car, which is now noisely chirping! Not good VW, considering this issue hase been around in the Gen V GT TSI engines!"

Does anyone have the same issues ?
Would I be better of buying an Audi A3 knowing that it has been around for longer and most issues fixed ?
Shall I trust VW to efficiently fix the known issues ?

    What are you thoughts ?

Don't buy one.... They are obviously unreliable buckets of rubbish judging by those expert opinions

The problem with complaints is that the people who are really happy with their vehicle don't have the time to be writing on forums, they are out driving it around and generally enjoying the great vehicle.

Do yourself a favour and search on here for the information you are after. There are a few problems, two threads I have started as well as some other peoples. But nothing that can't be resolved.

One of the reasons you hear the supercharger/water pump chirp is because the car is so quiet! With the all windows turned up I don't hear it on mine. The DSG gearbox takes getting use to; if you treat it like a normal automatic gearbox, you will be tearing your hair out but if you think of it as an automated manual (which it is) you will be rewarded. In my opinion, the Golf offers a much more refined ride than the other in it's class.

Take a ride in one and you will be hooked.

The write-ups like that have something positive in them for us.

The potential to shorten waiting time for a new VW car.

I learned not to listen the sites like caradvice.com too much and it works for me.

I love my tsi! It's quiet, zippy, handles well (with a sport pack)... couldn't fault it - and I am pedantic when it comes to cars. There are no rattles, no weird noises - just lots of fun! Whether it remains that way (after being hammered by hail) is another thing

Maybe it would be worthwhile to ask your insurer, if they would replace the roof? If yes, I would be asking how they weld the roof in, since I don’t think that there is a laser-welding machine in Australia. The roof most likely be spot welded; and here I would have a problem with it, since the original strength of the roof and whole safety cell will be lost and I bought the Golf for the safety!

Noted..... and thanks, I will add that to my list of questions for Sunday. Maybe if this is the case, I might stand a chance of having it written off. Here's hoping!
