VW Australia now have DRIVE AWAY pricing on their website!!!

When those new laws came in last year, VW pulled pricing of their cars off the website.

I checked tonight and it looks like its back:

This might make some of the VW Dealers abit more honest when it comes to Dealer Delivery now! I know of some VW Dealers (and I have price lists to prove this), that have their Dealer Delivery quoted at very heavily inflated rates). Having this info on the VW Australia website will make these dealers lower their Dealer Delivery rates to match what the VW Australia website is quoting.

Yeah thats the total drive away price that VW are saying is for Victoria. (Dealer Delivery, Rego and Stamp Duty)

You need to put your postcode in, and it will generate a price list for your state.

(each state has different stamp duty rates)

So doing it this way, it still left the dealers in control of their dealer delivery and whatever other fee's they put ontop of the car.

Now by VW Australia having their RECOMMENDED DRIVE AWAY prices on the site, it will make the dealers lower their prices to at least match what VW Australia is saying the RECOMMENED DRIVE AWAY price is.

Its like Sony saying the RRP of their Bluray player is $450, but JBHIFI go and price it at $650.

To be competitive, the retailer will AT LEAST match the RRP, in most cases beat it.

its only a RECOMMENDED retail price. In fact, pricing cannot be forced as this is aganist Trade Practices Law.

If the RRP of something is $100, demand is 2 units, and theres only one available, then I can pretty well guarantee that the actual selling price will be higher than the RRP, and vice versa if supply is greater than demand.

Its called a supply/demand price equilibrium.

People love a bargain and to be able to negotiate a huge discount, in fact I think that people are more obsessed with the discount theyve negotiated, rather than the actual price theyve paid.

Publishing RRPs still allows dealers to sell at a profit and make people happy about the price theyve negotiated

And most smart people would visit more than one dealer, prices where still listed in magazine and online reviews and the customer is in control of how much they pay.

So doing it this way, it still left the dealers in control of their dealer delivery and whatever other fee's they put ontop of the car.

Dealers can price their dealer delivery at whatever they want and always have.

What other fees are they putting on top? Are you saying they're making up fees? Perhaps like 'Volkswagen Advertising Fee $100', 'Krudd Tax $200', 'Global Emissions Tax $200'???

Now by VW Australia having their RECOMMENDED DRIVE AWAY prices on the site, it will make the dealers lower their prices to at least match what VW Australia is saying the RECOMMENED DRIVE AWAY price is.

The retailer will sell it at a price that allows them to make sales and maintain margin. If it's too high (like you're claiming VW dealers were doing) they will make no sales.

Might not be of a huge benefit to those with access / knowledge of the spreadsheet and have the time to shop around extensively, but definitely a better starting point for the average joe.

Physically went down to and saw, if not at least called most of the dealers here in Victoria and the price breakdown for each option and even the car itself could be quite significant.

Example:

Dealer 1

118TSI - $31,990 base cost
Dealer 'duty' - $1995

Dealer 2

118TSI - $32,990 base cost
Dealer 'duty' - $2995

I managed to get a similar % discount from both of them - based off the final 'RRP' they quoted me, however its quite obvious dealer 2 cushioned a significant % of the final price to begin with. At least the release of some base RRP numbers will keep some dealers a bit more honest.

Based on these prices having no options attached to them yet, I think it's the most comforting post yet in making me feel like I got a decent deal on my GTI mk6.

With ACC/Dynaudio/Reverse cam added I paid only a small amount over the recommended $47,234.

This is in stark contrast to that other tread going where people have mentioned they got up to 11 per cent off!

In the end though....what a car!
