I'll complain that we don't get the VW "BlueMotion" cars! We need more VW's with better economy than the Prius to shut up all those frak'in greenies

For instance... xenons are not available on a Non-GTI Golf in the UK. So, I can't see that we are being specifically screwed.

I don't think we are 'being screwed' I think we have heaps of choice, well at least enough choice.

My question is what are the factors that prevent these options being offered, as in is it VWA, or some other reason like compliance. Just seeking a justification on the current circumstances, so we can be a bit better informed on 'why' things are as they are.

agreed. I am disappointed nz comfortine can get electric seats but we cant. I dont think the spare parts argument holds since vwa simply imports parts for warranty claims if its not available locally in stock. I have seen quite a few posts on dsg fixes to know that.

If the factory can make to order i cant see why we cant option whatever the factory will build. Maybe they are afraid of canibalising audi sales?

Except you can't get all the options available in AUDI in Australia that you can overseas.

I will say this generalisation... 98% of VW buyers don't know or care about what options are available on Golfs overseas.

The spare parts argument does hold up and every option you add to the list has a cost to it and if that option will sell to very few in any people that cost has to be met through increased base car prices.

I mean really how many people are going to order the electric seat on a $25K car? And how many will wait 4-6 months for the car to arrive? Same with bi-xenon's as they're not exactly a big seller on budget cars plus they have a different part number for the non GTI/GTD models as they have a different coloured lining so it's more parts that VWA has to import and stock for warranty and crash repairs and it doubles the number of variants of Golfs making it harder to for customers to buy what they want.

The Australian market is tiny and can't sustain a huge range of options. Look at Toyota and it's market share, they have bugger all options available. Even Ford and Holden are the same as is Mazda and so on.

partly because of that 'hur hur greenies lol111!!!' attitude makes them harder to sell. i find it ironic that the reason why our 2.0 turbo fours can thrash the pants off 5l v8s and use 1/4 the fuel is precisely because of 'greenies' in europe demanding ever higher efficiency. this hyper-competitive environment is why they are still around. maybe if we had a similarly strong movement here we would have an actual car industry as opposed to a glorified work for the dole scheme. it always surprises me that most car enthusiasts don't understand this.

I just hope that VWA gets the 5 door Golf GTD down here sooner than later and at a price below the GTI as it is in Europe.

lol... man, my comment was tongue-in-cheek. I was just sick of people complaining about silly things about VW, so I picked something purposely silly to complain about.

And btw, the reason the BlueMotion cars aren't available here has nothing to do with 'sales difficulties' or attitudes. It has to do with the Australian climate. The blue motion cars have much smaller air intakes and other things which make them only suitable to cooler climates.
