    Great news.

A couple of points - your car did not really have MANY parts replaced - the diagnostics pointed to a throttle valve which was replaced (but not actually faulty), then they replaced the wire from the throttle to the ECU (also not actually faulty), then they replaced the ECU, whch was faulty - not at all common for a Bosch unit. A blight on the VW - not really, VW don't make the ECU.

Compared to a car from pre-ECU days, this amounts to replacing spark plugs, plug leads, to find it was the coil.

Not sure what you mean by "didn't have a chance to test the vehicle" - but you have tested for 250ks.

Anyway, hopefully that will be the only drama you have with the car, and hopefully you avoided any direct flood trauma, the scope of which puts the small car problems we all have into perspective.

    Well this is good news.

It has ended up that there is a single faulty part, and only 3 things replaced (including faulty ECU). As mentiond above, the ECU isn't even made by VW, but made by Bosch. And before someone comes in here and says that VW should then find someone better, Bosch parts are used by practically every car brand in the world (well, my knowledge of Asian cars is not good, but Japan, Australia, USA and Europe brands all use Bosch), from Holden & Ford, to Toyota and Mazda, to VW/Audi, and yes, even Ferrari!

It also shows you why consumer goods may be replaced immediately, but laptops/computers, and other complex things like cars (and houses) are not immediately replaced and the supplier has the opportunity to repair it.

The unfortunately thing about this issue is that a loan car was not offered for the entire period without you having to kick up a stink. And then you also had to pay for the excess. It was also frustrating how long the ECU took to get here. Hopefully your feedback and go some way to raising this issue to be addressed by VGA and their dealer network.

Yay. I still think that VWA could have expedited the process by supplying an ECU from another car in their undelivered stock. - unless they really are incapable of resetting an ECU which I find very hard to believe.

I love this SMS - it sound like the flooding was planned.

To "borrow" an ECU from another car would require the dealer to raise a warranty case for the other car so that the replacement ECU could be ordered for that car. Then the borrowed ECU would need to be re-programmed to the now incorrect VIN numbered vehicle.

This is an altogether wrong process to attempt, and I can't imagine any dealer doing this.

If they did, it would be twice the work for them, and then when the buyer of the donor car checks its warranty history it will appear as if the car had failed pre-delivery.

That buyer would then come on here and raise a thread entitled "Very very disappointed with my new Golf", and all the know-it-alls would start spewing about compensation, lemon laws, etc, etc.

Jokes about predictability of waters rising are just so wrong. It was indeed possible to predict when certain areas would be under water.

It was ordered around Christmas and he picked up the car fully fixed and tested on 11 Jan. Take out all the public holidays and xmas/ny delays and its not really that long a period of time.

Hence why I keep saying it should have been done by VWA. OK, I didn't explicitly state this in the first post where I stated that an ECU could have been swapped from another vehicle but I would have thought that the unsold, undelivered vehcle qualifier would have made this implication very clear.

As far as I know, VWA does not have a service centre, so they cannot remove an ECU from a car that has not passed to a dealer. The cars are in holding yards or in transit under the control of shipping companies.

Once the car is at the dealer, the car is no longer the property of VWA.

You are becoming somewhat pathetic with your strident defense of your position.

[Urgent Text Regarding Flooding, Hi XXX, Please Collect your car from xxx VW before 11.30amas the service dept will be flooded by 12.30, cannot accept any responsibility for any cars left here
    JUST IN TIME

Think of the posts in this thread if the car had been caught in the flood
Re parts suppliers, how about Lucas? (In so many British cars)

Electronics problems are high in the list of complaints against Ford and Holden, according to a "Choice" reliability survey.

Credit to VW that they don't do it your way. I don't think that many in this forum would appreciate that their new car they bought was used as a donor for testing and any part you can think of was removed and refitted.
