heh You probably find a car is $2K of parts
Look the engine and drive train are probably the most robust pieces of equipment ( as long as you dont have a Subaru boxer engine that drinks oil) the most likely items to fail these days are the damn electronics. How many have had a PC throw the towel in over some dry joint..? The Dealership is doing what we all do when we get a tech issue, swap parts till it clears, I mean how many folk here understand exactly what a blue screen is telling you ..
I reckon once they have swapped out all the puter parts the car will be just fine. The challenge here is the tyranny of distance and getting all these parts in country take time. The challenge for all major companies is keeping their costs low ( hopefully to pass on some to the customer) and maintaining copious amounts of spares is just not good business.
The real story is the customer experience whilst this is happening, it can make or break the brand, dealer and return business. I can only read what is happening through the eyes of the person affected individual and perception is reality.. he is not a happy customer
