Very Very disappoint with my new Golf 6 and Dealer

Dude, this is an Internet forum. You’ve got no business what so ever coming in here talking knowledgeably and with common sense. I’m only interested in your opinion, based on an anecdote that is at least once removed from your personal experience. Ideally, I need you to tell some story about your uncle’s friend who was once kidnapped by aliens for science experiments if you want to have any credibility in my eyes. A coupla' weeks in a Toyota (Corolla?) should cure you of them for life...unless you're an automotive philistine...Toyotas most valuable market.
Obligitary intanet anecdote...Mum was set, as in off to sign the papers, to buy an Echo a couple of years back. She was asking me what I though before she did. I STRONGLY encouraged her to stop at the VW dealer on the way and have a drive of a Polo...never made it to the Toyota dealer...

Yeah - I had the unfortunate experience of being a rear seat passenger in a brand new Corolla from Coolangatta airport to Surfers Paradise. There were 5 people in the car, so I was on the left rear seat. As a Toyota owner for over 10 years, I'm disgusted and embarrased by how complacent and cheap they've become. I mean, they haven't even bothered to put "full cushioning" on the rear seat. What do I mean by that? On the the left and right side's of the rear back cushioning, it supports your shoulder blades, and then just stops. There is nothing behind your mid and lower back and the wheel arches. I kid you not!

The door panels are now a single large piece of plastic. There isn't even a separate insert for the door lever. The level just extends out of the "arm rest"/"handle" section of the door mold.

We had the Corolla for a few days and I could seriously exceed the character limit of 3 posts in a row telling you about all the crappy design and features and quality of them... But you could probably come to the same conclusion in a much shorter time by just looking at one in person with your own two eyes...

When there used to be a lot of money between the base model Corolla and Golf, I could understand people buying the Toyota. Now that there is less than $1000 between them (there was previous less, Toyota has dropped Corolla pricing a bit, and offering 2.9% finance, after the release of the 77TSI Golf) it just doesn't make any sense at all to get a Corolla. Like buy anything else... Focus, Mazda 3, Golf, but don't buy a Corolla - you'd have to be either nuts or ignorant to the other options! lol

We kind of know what is the profile of VW owners. I do wonder what type of people buy Toyota, especially the Corolla.

The "legendary" reliability that everyone spouts about Toyota is, I think, a bit of a myth. It has its share of problems and maybe owners overlook or whatever.

Yep...I agree. Most things out of the toyota factory are for people who have no interest in driving, hence should not be on the road!

As Clarkson once said about kias and other crappy cars."If you buy one of these, you are in effect saying 'I have no interest in cars or driving', and hence you must be no good at it, and are therefore probably a bad driver and should therefore not be allowed on the road or have a licence" (or words to that effect)

Yes, they all have their quirks — some more than others, but the Golf seems to have its full share.

My Mk6 TDI replaced a MX83R Cressida that I'd driven for 20+ years — it was for sure the best and most reliable car I ever had (and I've owned lots, from cheap through mid-range to downright expensive, (including various Corollas, Crowns, Corona's, Lancia Lambda's, Yank products from Model T upwards, Austin/Morris/Wolseley/Triumph/Jag/Fiat — even a RR for a short while, and once a very ancient Bug.))

18 months later I'm still making my mind up on the VW, but doubt it will measure up to the MX83 — it's cheaper to fill and goes further on a tank, pulls better, handles differently though probably just as well but is noticeably noisier, doesn't ride as well, isn't nearly as popular with passengers (nearly all comment on the over-servoed brakes and the road noise,) is an absolute swine to reverse up a narrow drive, long term maintenance costs seem likely to be higher and service life probably shorter (although it'll most likely outlive me...)

We have a 2001 Corolla Ascent auto sedan in our household,which has only done 140 000 kilometers,but is a brilliant car.

It has given ZERO problems,drives well,is comfy enough,and bodywork/trim immaculate.

The only thing needed has been a replacement battery,and as the RACV said,thats the only thing which goes wrong with Corollas.

In the same time,I have also owned a 2001 Holden Astra sedan,2007 VW Jetta 2.0 FSI,and a MY11 Honda Accord Euro,and ALL have given far more problems and niggles than the humble little Silver Corolla.

Surely that is what MOST people expect from a new car.
I think its a safer buy than a new Golf,and I am a VW person,having bought 4 brand new VWs in the past few years.

Since your car was built (2001) Toyota quality has slipped and decontenting has increased. A friend's 2008 Corolla has already had the steering and front struts replaced under warranty.

That said, I do agree with you that it is a safer (if somewhat cheaper and less exciting) buy in terms of quality than the Golf. It comes down to whether you want to own a reliable frig on wheels or something with a bit more character.

Well, just look at the rear axle of the Corolla (the pipe between the wheels) , I have seen a better axle on the trailer that some people take rubbish in to the rubbish dump from time to time.

A couple years back, I was forced to to use a Camry Altise as my company car, in fact my only car for about 12 months, I think it was the catalyst for my finding a new job. It is impossible to describe the mind numbing boredom of that car, and I had to cover 25,000kms per year for FBT reasons.
