None of the Japanese hot hatches have nice interiors. Sit in a NEW Impreza and you would have thought the interior was designed in the 1990s. Hideous and cheap as chips.

    Its a test for both.
If you are happy with your $60,000 car and the dealer has made $5,000 then great.
If you are still happy with the same car but paid $65,000, the dealer has made $10,000 then great also, but thats less value - paying more for the same.

Most agree how great the value of the R is in australia compared to the UK for example. VW are making far more on the R in the UK than they are selling it in Oz
VW Australia agree the car is "vastly better value" in australia than the UK, and the only difference that makes this so is the profit VW make on each car.

Greater profit for VW on UK sales = Less value for the UK buyers

Just my thoughts..but the same can be applied to the Focus in Oz.

This is one thing I suspected about VW owners (el cheap end of euro owners).

I'm just comparing to a golf. Yeah the golf is nicer. For sure.

But the golf is still very plain, and plastic inside everywhere. It's no BMW where the doors are stitch leather pieces or anything.. Using words like "hideous" and "disgusting" is just crap when your comparing two cars where one is better, but very comparable (interior, not power ofcourse)

And Corey it probably didnt help that the one you saw had 20,000 people sit in the last week. But that's alright if you guys find it hideous, I'm not suprised.

plastic yes, but very good quality plastic.....

i havnt been too impressed with the interior of the bmws... audis are nice though... fords and holdens are just a joke when it comes to inside quality not to mention efficiency (whats power without efficiency after all?) its money down the drain thats what it is.....

each to their own though - my boss drives an old Triumph TR5 which he absolutely loves - terrible to drive, uncomfortable, etc... but he thinks its the greatest thing since Scarlett Johansson.....

I didn't say the MPS was hideous. But I'd agree with that comment since you made it

I was not impressed. Nor was the '98 Commodore driving mate of mine. He couldn't believe how bad it was simply because he had heard people compare it to the Golf and A3 etc and we had plenty of time to look at all the cars in detail. He actually didn't even want to sit in it and was happy to just look from the drivers door.

Sure, the Golf has plastic, but it's mostly "soft touch" on the dash and doors etc. Just like BMW has soft touch plastic on the dash and door trim (since you bought them up). The Mazda is not comparable to either of these since it just uses hard cheap plastic everywhere.

I'm sorry, but no amount of comments would convince me that the Mazda 3 is comparable.

Edit: Oh, if I were spending Mazda 3 MPS money, I'd grab the Renault Megan RS 250 Cup. SOOO much nicer than the Mazda

who'd want a ''focussed hot hatch'', with stiff ride, tight seats and all the other sensory aides, that's quickest in "dont touch the flappers, leave it in auto mode"?

'ch'is why the renaultsports are manual.

dude, no offence, but you sound like an import fanboy sometimes, and yet we've all seen the ''el-cheapo euros'' SPANK these so called "unbelievably performing price-point japanese supercars" around the track, in motor magazine tuner edition TWO years in a row.

i think i need to spend more time around "performance cars", because all this talk about how STI's and MP3 and evo X etc are so unbelievably, gob-smackingly, overwhelmingly god damn fast, and yet.............. they're slower than the VW's at tuner ed. track day........

so, are the ''imports'' really that brutally fast? or are we picking pubes and talking they'd pull away maybe 2-3 car lengths over a distance of 5kms in the twisties?

as for bmw- i can tell you that from what i've seen, anything this side of a $100k bmw (be it x1 or 1 or 3 etc) does NOT feel/ look like it deserves the price tag (have spent a little time tyre-kicking at bmw dealerships with the old man recently).

True that. I'm a massive BMW fan, but the 1 series has _always_ been outclassed by a leather equiped GTI / R(32) in the interior quality. Even spending $85k on a 135i, it's not the interior you're buying it for!
