Thread: Value of Golf R Compared to others

  1. #41

lol on a comment 'looks like Darth Vader's helmet' i think it actually does,
as for the RS its probably good fun for a day or two but in the end who wants to come back home after work with a sore back or no teeth due to the stiffness of the ride and i'm pretty sure that car is stiff as if they actually bothered to strip it and bolt Recaros in it.

Just the two cents of my input.

I agree GTI4fun, one of the main reasons I am not buying another MPS is the quality of the ride. Its great having a taut, stiff suspension for staying flat through corners on a windy mountain pass, but when your driving to and from work (98% of the rest of the time) it's nice to not have to clench the sphincter muscle over every bump and join in the road.
Golf R MY 11.5 United Gray, 3 door, DSG, ACC, Free MDI, Bluetooth
Mods - APR Downpipe, VW Racing AI, HPFP, APR Tune Stage 2+- lovin it!
Touareg V8 TDI R-Line, White .Arrived 11 July.

    Hey Ya Rex,
    Just the standard stock suspension.
Although have tried many different sets of tyres over the past 120,000 klm, all to different results.
I don't do track days, just the occassional weekend car club rally/meet.

MPS is rubbish.. Hence you see none on the road..

I sat in one when it first came out. The interior could not be any cheaper in quality. The seat and door panel cloth print is hideous. Plastic exterior panels also look cheap. Less is best.

190KW to front wheels is just stupid and will have you in the side of a tree in no time.

VW Golf R APR Stage II... Here I come...

But still puts a smile to my face like no other car has to date.
If you had also taken it out of the yard for a spin on a highway you would know what i mean.
80-120 in 3.5 secs will do that (that is 911 pace)

You sat in one when they came out, congratulations.

The new ones are very nice cars. They have nice interiors, reliable and extremely quick.

They do come with a lot of nice options such as xenons and Bose audio, so to me they definitely are not rubbish.

And the have more torque than an EVO.

Obviously not the car for you, but it's a great car.

In wheels magazine it rated only .01 less g forces than the GTI. So it handles with what some say excellent FWD cars.

I agree, and to get back to topic, the Focus in Oz is astoundingly poor value.

Now, its almost certain that they'll all be snapped up real quick, so clearly the buyers of the Focus are not interested in a value purchase - it's an emotional purchase
But I also think the Focus buyers are not interested in subtlety, best-practice quality, nor having features that are standard in cars one third the price.

I would be VERY interested to know what it costs (per car) for Ford to produce the Focus and VW to produce the R. My feeling is Ford (and it's dealers) are making an obsolute killing on these things.

In my mind that would be the ultimate test for "value".

That's a test of profitability, nothing to do with value!

Oh... I've just come back from the Sydney Motorshow, and Mazda must've only had the old 3 MPS on display... that was silly of them
