took my car in for the shudder today (has been booked in for a month).. this will be the 3rd trip to have it looked at so hopefully a new clutch pack is actually going to get installed.......

BUT on the way there I heard the squeal again I had the waterpump replaced around 7,500kms and have not had any squeal/squeak/chirp until today.. so it was a fixed for around the last 13,500kms but now its back..

So while I may get my shudder fixed now I have the f**king squeal back!

I love my car and will defend it to anyone who says its a lemon.. but it is starting to do my head in... 85% of the time its brilliant.. but for 35k you would think it would be great for 95% of the time!

Hey Bel, when you raise the squeal issue with the dealer, are they aware of this? or you need to take them for a ride and show them the problem? water pump replacement, is this a big job? or they can do it within the same day? I have mine book in this thursday to get the shudder and squeal noise look at as it is bloody annoying

Hey rockDAhouse The waterpump was a 'fix' from ages ago that I don't think actually solved the problem long term.. I really just thought I was lucky and that whatever they had done worked - but now its back.
I told Tash (VW wangara) when I dropped the car off for the (fingers crossed) clutch replacement for the shudder and was told there is still no long term fix for the squeal available, yet.. a few posts here say there is something in the works which sound promising but no idea when it will be available.

The shudder is a whole different kettle of fish and there is another thread all about it.. general solution seems to be a replacement of the clutch pack but its an issue that needs to be logged and recorded by the dealers before getting the clutch replaced... This is the 3rd time it will have been 'looked' at - last time was a software update of the DSG which gave me better gear changes but didn't fix the shudder.

My 118 TSI had the same problem and the service advisor said they are working on a fix, having said that after my 45000k service the noise has stopped, so l'll keep listening, ( and yes it was the supercharger clutch).

Had the 118TSI to the dealers on Friday for a rear shockie change (warranty). When the mechanic came back from the test drive, I asked if he picked up the water pump "chirp". Said yes and he was going to book a replacement pump / clutch for a fix. Asked if VAG had a "new" fix for this other than replacing the old pump "like for like". Response was that VW had designed a new pump/clutch solution as the other replacements hadn't worked. Apparently was released around Christmas time (the new design water pump / clutch). Being ordered and due for fitting next week or the week after. Will keep you informed. Suggest you hassle your own dealers if this is an issue still.

Well, looks like our 118TSI wagon has the issue as well.
Squeaking upon gear changes & moderate to hard acceleration. Before Xmas - It’s idling very rough and the engine light came on.
Have an appointment with the dealer tomorrow – let’s hope:
    1. We don’t have the engine replacement issue
    2. They can install the updated pump/clutch
    3. We actually get better service from VW and their local dealer

I am so frustrated with VW. Almost on the verge of writing to ACCC, today-tonight and even a class action.
