Totally Stock Golf R - EPA Notice

All it's takes is one person who's had a bad day to make a complaint and then your served with a request to have it checked. That's total bulls*#t!!!
Makes you wonder how a car like the R passed ADR rules in the first place?? Id be fighting this if the car is totally stock. The **** who approved ADR should be paying any fines on a stock vehicle.

And all it will take is for 1 large car company like VW to take this matter to the courts over their stock cars being EPA'ed for these BS laws to be changed.

Yes, my son in law wanted to replace his RS Octy with the R, but I don't think that he likes the prospect to be bugged with the EPA and a such. He is now more keen on BMW, hoping that the more prestiges brand would be less likely targeted by the ...ots.

    I've driven 75,000kms in 2 years in my R.

    I got it when I was 26.

I have never had any issues at all from the police.

I would have been fairly upset had it happend to me on a stock car.
Only coped it once in my SS with straight pipes, fitted up a standard exhaust and it was on the limit.
And 88db is a fair bit off 90db

I agree with this ^. I haven't driven mine as much as Ideo, but Police don't even look at my car which is fantastic. Only once at a roadside RBT did the cop ask me to turn off the daytime running lights, to which i replied that they come on automatically with the headlights and cannot be turned off (it was at night time).

Good thing about the R is that its so subtle that unless the cop is a bit wiser or into cars, they wouldn't see it as anything other than another hatchback.

I agree with this to. Although I was never pulled over in a year of driving my clearly modified Polo GTI, so who knows.

When I first got the R and went through a booze bus, cop asked me what model it was as he hadn't seen it before.

I said it was the new 1.3L diesel blue motion. He had a confused look on hes face and said looks good and sent me on my way.

Got EPA'ed alot in my R33 Skyline, but it was alot louder than 90db and decated.

I've been through a number of RBT's and given it a bootfull passed others because everyone has to slow down in case they are speeding or something . I've got a downpipe with no resonator and the flapper is permanently open yet have had no issues. It must be the Mexican that are the issue. You should move to a decent state.
