hmm after reading this thread I don't know if I did the right thing or not.. been in the car all weekend driving all over Sydney and doing all kinds of driving from gentle traffic, to highway cruising , mountain twisties and every now and then a right flogging.. I am now concerned the car could either grenade or grow up to be a weapon.. and it only has 400kays on it..

You've already driven it more than me. I drive it like I would with any other car - that's what the dealer told me. However, I wouldn't overly trash it. Hope you're having just as much as me!

heh, thats what the dealer told me, but I drive every car differently.. and the R just begs to be spanked it is so hard to control.. but I figured I didn't do to bad, 1st tank of fuel has last me 460kays and I just filled up again.. I was expecting really bad economy as I run it in but it has been great.. when I return to normal driving patterns it should do better

Do you drive on freeways a lot? After I filled up my tank, the trip computer told me I only can go 380km on that tank. I wonder if it tends to underestimate it so that people don't leave it to the last minute to fill up.

Nope , very rarely on freeways generally city traffic hence the DSG ( which I am a huuuuge fan.. it is so smooth )

Yeah your comments about waiting till it got warm rang in my ears as I watched the needle pass an unmentionable number and reached in an unmentionable time.. but I thought 93 degree engine oil was warm enuff..

Yep, 93 degree oil is well and truly warm for the Golf R. Under "regular driving" at this time of the year, my oil only gets to about 86ish (but I have the APR intercooler and I think it is reducing my oil temp by a few degrees by lowering the combustion temps).

I had a great time today, gave the keys to a mate I hadn't told I was buying the car.. I watched him giggle for 3 hours straight behind the wheel.. it is terribly addictive

I think you might have been around cars enough to know how to run one in.
