Can one of you experts confirm that the Mk VI 118TSI has a timing chain and not a belt? Thanks

pretty sure its a belt, which is why it needs changing every 60k..
please correct me if I am wrong.

All of the new VW 4 cyl petrol motors (the "EA888" family group) have timing chains - this will make for cheaper servicing costs for those who keep the cars for longer than 4 years (or put up a lot of Kms).

The 1.4l 118TSI comes from the EA111 family and it's camshaft is chain driven

I thought that chains also have to be replaced as they can also stretch / wear over time ... they just have a longer interval per change but are more expensive per change than timing belts?

Hi, I have a stock 2010 Golf GTI MK6. She has 103k on the clock, FVWSH to date. I wanted to find out more info about getting the timing chain tensioner replaced with the improved OEM design. I've been reading many horror stories of failure due to the tensioner poor design in early models such as mine. Has anyone had this replaced outside warranty? If so how much? I called VW Fivedock, Sydney to ask for a quote..the guy was useless and started telling me my Mk 6 had a belt. Prob gonna go to a VW specialist who seem to actually understand the issue, at least on the phone. Any experience / advice would be appreciated. Thanks
