It's only damage to the bumper at the front on mine. There is one or two small scratches and a few spots where the plastic is deformed.
What type of paint does VW use on the bumpers? It's the reflex siver.
Do the repairers use the same paint?

Repairers will attempt a colour match using coding and eye

I can guarantee they will not use OEM paint (not a bad thing)

Good repairers will use a matrix application to attempt a match of orange peel and texture

Colour match on light colours is difficult surprisingly.

    Thanks for that.
I'm not sure how bad the OEM paint can be after seeing the damage to the bumper. Maybe the factory spray job?
Most of it will buff out after a pretty large truck side swiped it with the tow gate. The deformed plastic and scratches from the welding job on the tailgate are what needs fixing. That's if my wife doesn't hit anything in the meantime.

Request a new bumper and respray

Repairers will attempt a plastic weld which will not hold on the OEM bumpers.

    Good luck with it

Barloworld Bayside is an absolute rip off! I bought a replacement front grill from them as mine was damaged from someone reversing into me. Asked them for a quote to replace the front grill and the Service Manager quoted me 4 to 6 hours of labour at $125 an hour! Obviously I said No! Found a DIY on VW Golf Net later that day and did it myself! Took me 10 mins max!

Indeed. I literally sometimes see the faces of those at my VW service department drop when I say I'll take car of something myself.

    Remove the Grill:

DIY Replace the Front “VW” emblem of Mk 6 Golf “R”

The DIY is for the VW emblem removal.. The reason I needed it though was so I could get past the grill to remove my headlights in order to replace the globes.

From the quote they gave, it would cost a minimum of $500 (4 hours) to remove a few clips and fit a new one. Now if it takes someone at home 10 minutes to do the same then it sounds like a major rip off!! I know who/where I wouldn't be taking my car to.
