    Hi guys,

Sorry haven't been posting for a while. Been trying to sort out my car. I was wondering if I could grab an opinion. Finally got my Golf R delivered about 2 weeks back...damaged. It has a small paint defect on the roof as if they didn't give it time to adequately cure before putting stickers on and when the stickers came off, so did some of the clear coat so there is bubbly paint on the roof. The dealer have been good and tried to get their techs in to buff it/seal it etc but it's still there. So the only way to fix is to do a repaint and cause they have to reach seams, it will be roof, A pillar and C pillar repaint. Not exactly what I would like to do for a new car and am hesitant about this even though they say they are willing to do at their cost. They have asked me what I am expecting from them as a result of this damage. I'm not sure what is acceptable compensation so I'm asking others what their thoughts are and if any have come across this issue.

Hard to say really, they are going to have it fixed, the only real damage is your expectations. So my humble opinion is you ask for extended warranty, 3 years free servicing and their paint protection offering thrown in

Make them pay for a vinyl wrap on the roof

No painting, looks pretty good on some colours, easy to take care of

    Repaint is always a challenge.

Thanks for the opinion guys. I don't want a repaint as I think it will create more problems as you can't get as good a finish the second time. Therefore I don't want them to fix it but I don't want them to think it's alright to sell damaged cars. I like both suggestions so far and will throw it back to them.

Traffic on the freeway was moving nice and quickly this morning, but then also stopped very quickly. Brakes on the Golf were great as always, not so much the brakes on the Yaris behind me. So I've been rear-ended by someone with no insurance, AFAI can see it's just a few scratches, but should get the panel off to check underneath. Anyone know of a good place to get this fixed (Melbourne / S.E. Suburbs)?

If you can identify the driver at fault ,you dont have to pay any thing, let the insurance know they will sue the other drive for the cost of your repairs and you wont loose your no claim bonus .
Do not repair any of the damage yourself as it might ,have to be inspected by the insurance company .

I've got his details and all, but heard from others that there's a chance I'll be asked to pay excess and premiums might go up, and I honestly wouldn't put it past insurance companies to do that. Just looking for a place to get a quote to forward to him, if he doesn't want to play along then I can go the other route I guess.

That blows big time Ryan_R. There should be a law making third party insurance a minimum cover required for every registered car. It could be stipulated that before the yearly registration renewal can be issued, proof of at least minimum cover must be provided. If a driver at fault is caught, after reissue of rego, without the minimum cover the car should be then deemed unregistered and the driver can be booked accordingly.

Good luck with sorting it out!!
