I know this should probably go in another thread but can you guys recommend any performance enhancements for my 118 TSI?

Bumper will now be repaired, not replaced.

    Insurance companies suck.

My R is tainted, I'm going to tune it and drive it hard

the damage doesn't look like it justify replacing, just some adjustment and repaint.

I had my panels replaced from an accident before, it still needs reprinting so if you're hoping to get away with color matching issues it won't make any difference having it replaced.

The bumper needs liquid plastic repair

Ground down beyond the base fill on the edge plus gouging

Currently that has a 5 yr life

    Replace please

My brother had less damage on the rear bumper of his GTI and his insurance company just replaced it.

The car was about 8 weeks old at the time. I thought they like to remove and replace these days on new cars.

    Woohoo - some updates

    I was wrong !

The smash repairer said an excess applied when I am to pick up the car. I made the assumption I was at fault.

Rang NRMA this morning and that has not yet been decided. Until an at-fault assessment has been made, the excess applies.

The other driver has not lodged a claim and had not returned calls from NRMA.

NRMA have lodged a statement with NSW Police regarding his visit to our home at night and the call made by his brother.

CS at NRMA said based on evidence they have, I am not at fault. I now need to wait on a response from the other driver.

    This could drag on.

Regarding the repair, the assessor made the call that the job would be a better finish as a repair than a replacement.

NRMA want to do a free post repair assessment to make sure all is well. I'll be checking it as well, with a magnifying glass.

I really need to step back from this and let it all happen.

Candyman: I had EXACTLY the same thing happen to me in my bmw. got merged into by an old woman in a getz and had exactly the same damage.

I lodged a claim with NRMA and had it put in for assessment and repair. when i went to pick it up, they said I had to pay the excess since the other party had denied fault. I paid the excess and fought for weeks, and finally the other party withdrew their claim and I got my excess refunded.

The car was repaired and came back in absolutely immaculate condition - they resprayed the whole rear quarter panel which extended up over the windows to the A-pillar! the rim was repaired too, better than new.

If this happens to me again, and the car is still drivable, I'll wait until the claim has been conclusively settled (i.e. other party has been determined at fault) before i put it in for repair.
