Time to first damage (The Golf Accident Thread)

Change of pace here folks. It took a tad less than 10 weeks for my shiny new Golf to cop its first damage. Some loser in a public car park grazed it as they pulled in to the bay next to mine, and naturally they took off without leaving any contact details. It's going to be a pain in the neck (and also the wallet) getting by without the car while it gets repaired, but I guess that is part of the joy of car ownership.

Question time - who else has had this kind of trouble not long after delivery, and what were the circumstances? Can anyone top 10 weeks to their first significant damage?

    No - touch wood.
After picking up a 103 TDI yesterday I'm absolutely paranoid of something happening!

A friend of my Dad's bought a new Falcon some years back, and upon pulling out of the dealership was t-boned by a large truck.

A write off in the 1st minute !

Must be a Falcon thing. I grounded the chin spoiler on my XR6T driving it out of the dealership.

Owned it for about 5 minutes.

That's what makes me decided to pay extra $1000 to get the car protected from such small damages for 3 years.

It's pretty dangerous to park the car in public area. Few months ago, just before I put the order for my GTI. There was a guy tried to park his car in front of mine on Pitt Street. His girlfriend was watching his back but he still hit my car's front bumper. I was there and watching. Fortunately, there was no damage on my car.

6 weeks for mine. Scraped the left rear Detroit on a curb - avoiding a car using too much of a service station driveway entrance. Luckily it's a really minor graze - you can barely see it.

Yeh! I havn't had an accident for ages, untill (or should I say victim of accident). My latest, recently posted. A 6+ month old MK5 Golf GT TDI. Parked and a 4WD drove over the bonnet. Now fixed, within a week of repairs. Waiting for a park at shops. A silly COW! jumped in her car and reversed out of another park into the rear of my baby.
This wasnt bad though. Past years, there were a few. Most while I was stationary. The worst, Just bought a Range Rover and drove off. Latter on pulling onto the side of the Nepean Hwy, Parked. An idiot in a MG B, revesed accross the Nepean Hwy just to park on my quater pannel. Then they asked why I was parked there!

Unfortunately there ain't much you can really do about this....

    EXCEPT!

You could get your car completely covered in 3M Paint Protection Film, or Ventureshield Stoneguard. Either of those products (they're essentially the same thing) will protect the car so well that a respray probably wouldn't even be necessary in the type of damage the OP mentioned.

My first dent on GTI :(

4 months was all i could manage till yesterday when walking back to car in shopping centre car park and saw a 5 cent size ding in the rear right door. Obviously some careless car next to mine just threw open the door's edge into it.
Yes i know its trivial in the great sense of things but the first ding is always the most painful!
I only wish I could just suck or vacuum the metal outward so my eyes don't drift to it everytime I look at the car.
