We're in Melbourne so we won't actually see it. My 118 TSI was repaired by him and so far has been more reliable than a couple of the factory fresh TSI's (I think I'm supposed to write something about wood in brackets here)

I'll tag along with him this Thursday - I think he's looking at a few other Golf's and an Audi.

Thanks for that. The insurance company should be happy with that.

Wonder whether purchaser will scap for parts or re-build - if re-build hope they know what they are doing especially in straightening the rails, and for their sake, pray the motor is not internally damaged.

For that price I'm pretty sure it would be a rebuild. There are machines out there that pull the rails to straighten them, and to get the dimensions of the car millimeter perfect. Unfortunately though, there are those who do a proper repair, and those who do a dodgey repair, and get the required certificates from places that have never seen the car (one such place in Melbourne got busted the other month).

    First Damage!

    8 months to first damage....

Some inconsiderate *#@# in a ute parked me in at the beach last week - and managed to deeply scratch my bonnet with his right rear light and put some small scratches on the bumper with his number plate.

He was still parked there when I got back - and I was completely parked in. Parking sensors were on full solid red tone so were useless - it was that close. Luckily a bloke helped me edge my car out - took about 25 mins of back and forthing.

Thing is there was matching damage on his ute (rear light and plate bent back) plus his business name was on the side of his vehicle. Needless to say, I took photos of it all, contacted the bloke (who completely denies it of course) and have made a claim. My insurance company is following it up.

Took it to the assessor - they said its a 2 grand job - sounds expensive for a small 20c sized scratch/dent. Its like a hailstone hit with a scratch in the middle. (see photo)

The insurance assessor said its due to the fact that its metallic paint, and the guards will need a respray - does that sound right?

Also - any recommendations for a good VW repairer?

All things considering, not a bad ding but an expensive one to fix....

    Cheers

That is correct. They will have to blend it into the guards. If the colour match is not 100% and they just sprayed the bonnet, you would see the colour difference between the bonnet and guards. But when they blend it into the guards it's not so noticeable to the untrained eye.

Sorry to hear this has happen to you. This sort of thing goes on far too much these days. Hope it all goes good for you.

Well it was 5 week for my Mk 6 GTI...some f#$% pulled out from a side street and, with the left lane empty, decided to pull into my ( right hand ) lane with a dirty great bullbar!!
Made a hell of a mess to my passenger side front panel and front door!!
Poor mirror was hanging by its wiring ((
And now have to drive around for a month with the damage because the panelbeaters around Perth are too busy with all the Hail damaged vehicles we have from a really bad hailstorm we had late last year (
What makes it worse is the D%^* blames me for his blindness!!!

third week in...after a long day of washing waxing and sealing i come back to my car after work to find a nice dent in the rear left quarter panel obviously done by someone opening their door as if they were in an open field.
Not anything big at all but every single time i am looking at that side of the car or when i wash it (weekly), It sticks out like a sore thumb!
Veryy annoying but thankfully no where near as bad as some of the stories in this thread.
I reckon I'd do a vigilante job if i saw someone doing it to someone else.....guess we'll see how that goes.
