Well there is a law, it just needs better enforcing I guess.

Nothing is bent, just scratches, chips, and an imprint (blue paint, not damaged) of the guys number plate. Professional touch-up job should do the trick. He was probably doing <20kph when I was hit, just felt like being kit from behind when go-karting at the time, just a bit more sore now.

    Should've taken the train

Hey Ryan, sorry to hear mate. Call up the Police Assistance Line (if you have that in Melbourne) and register the accident etc. Give them the details and get an incident number. Contact your insurance company and let them know the details as well. Even if they are uninsured and you intend to pursue him privately, at least get things on record

As I understand it, Compulsory third party (CTP) is for injury resulting from car/transport accidents and is part of the rego fee. Third Party Property insurance is recommended but not compulsory in Vic. That is the insurance I was referring to.

If people can't afford the minimum insurance then they should get off the road so none of us should have to fork out our own money for someone elses mistake.

If a driver at fault is caught, after reissue of rego, without the minimum cover the car should be then deemed unregistered and the driver can be booked accordingly.

Good luck with sorting it out!!
I could not agree more - as my Dad used to say to me, if you can't afford to insure it, you can't afford to own it!

Bit of a headache so I don't want to trawl through the photo thread, but does anyone have a close-up photo of the rear of their Golf that shows the lip just under the rego plate? On the left side of mine, the panel seems to have moulded itself around a hidden screw-head which I'm sure wasn't there before.

    Thanks, clear enough probably.

Here's what it looks like close-up:

Not sure touch-up would be able to fix that???

It appears to me that it is an imprint of a philips screw head from the car that rear ended you.
