So far the Mk6 is damage free....

Old Mk5, though, made it a week and a half before someone opened their door into mine leaving a dent and a scratch.

Some guy actually hit me on the freeway once and wouldn't stop (he merged without looking)... so I just followed him and called the cops while I was doing so. Helped that he was in a white van and I was in an RX-8 at the time

Do I hold the record? I saw someone else said within 5 minutes, but it wasn't a Golf!! 41 hours of ownership, rear ended by a P plater. Replaced the entire rear bumper.

Is there a prize for winning?

The record is much shorter than that. A guy that used to work with my dad hit a car when turning onto the street from the driveway of the dealer upon picking up the car.

Thought I'd share a similar story. My ex-boss's brand spanking new Honda Accord Euro. The salesperson took the car out back to install the plates and have it cleaned, pulling out of the spot it was in, he rear ended the bumper into another NEW vehicle. They replaced the bumper after a week. Heart wrenching.

The issue with the Golfs and dent/paint scratching (being a $22k car), is the panels are very thin and flimsy, I found the paint is also very thin.

I can definitely feel how thin the panels are when washing my car, you can feel the panels bend slightly when running a sponge over it.

Anyway, I always opt for the parking space next to the wall or column.

So far so good. Picked up my GTI 1pm today at Denlo Parramatta service centre.

Made a boring Tuesday an exciting one. No scratches or idiots banging into me. Now hurry on 1000kms!

As if this wasn't enough, I started memorizing the number plates of the cars parked next to mine!
I find parking next to more expensive/newer cars helps ease my mind . If s*** happens, someone else is gonna hurt more than me
Yea kerbs are a b**** esp for the detroits.
Welcome to my world! I even get to work really early so I get a good park with no one next to me. My obsession drives my wife and friends to frustration. You know when i think about it, what really _isses me off when small accidents occur in car parks or similar is that people have such a disregard for other peoples property that they say and do nothing. If i ever damaged some ones car in a car park, I would leave my card and commit to repairing it for them. If people choose to drive _hit box's thats ok, but respect other peoples property. I will get off my soap box now and head back to therapy!

100% agree with everything you've said! Damn, maybe I need therapy too then!
