Are these exposed wire behind the accelerator normal?

Have a GTI. Was playing with the footwell lights when noticed there a about 2 exposed wires just behind the accelerator pedal (uncovered). They dont look slack and I doubt a foot or shoe heel could get caught there but is this the same as everyone else? It seems a bit shonky to have exposed wires there which can get wet or perhaps accudentally ripped out if I had shoelaces that draped over that area (OK maybe thats paranoid), but it certainly doesn't look "complete" or refined to me.

Yeah, I have that too. Kinda struck me when I saw it too but its all part of the "drive-by-wire" experience...

They're not literally exposed though right? As in they're not two bare copper wires. They've got the plastic sheaths on still correct?

Yes they have plastic sheaths, I think one red and one white attached to a black plug, they look taut but you could put your finger under and rip them out if you wanted. Wonder if the pedal would fail. Wonder why they designed it that way, seems "fragile".

Well that's fine then. They're not 'exposed' as such. So there is no danger. And whilst they might not be integrated into casing and hidden from view (if you're sticking your head in the footwell in any case), they're also not at any risk of being pulled out of place by anything other than over inquisitive fingers!

Not hidden from the passenger. I'd never seen it before but the missus pointed at the wires the other day and asked if they were supposed to be like that. As in, strongly questioning that it really didn't look right. I shrugged it off until I read this - I might go and have a look myself, but I can't say I've noticed or that it bothers me.

Aah - I hadn't thought about what it looked like from the passenger's view. Oh well. If people are really concerned, I'm sure it couldn't be toooooo difficult to hide in some way. Just don't do something which will make your accelerator stick

It's a bit concerning now that paying this much for a car and now finding out all these "issues" with it.
I am not detered from it either way but maybe the car being built in RSA (5 door) is the cause of the problem??

Do any of the 3 door cars have this problem (built in Germany)?
