    TDI Turbo Lag?

    Hey Guys

Just a few days ago I noticed a huge lag in acceleration and not the usual turbo lag associated to the TDI, this is so much so, it just feels I'm driving a non turbo diesel with no power, if I take the revs above 3000rpm it seems to pull but still not like it used to, hmmm...

Took it to a VW Specialist to get the codes read but no errors come up.

The mechanic said it could be the start of the Actuator Valve failing (I think that's what he called it, the device that sits on the turbo), possibly leaking some air.

Currently on 89,000km FSH and no problems until now.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance!

    TDI Turbo Lag?

Someone else had the same issue the other day (also in a Modern TDI). It will most likely be the variable vanes in the turbo being stuck.

    **Update**

Absolutely spot on Lucas_R. Sure enough the Turbo was removed to reveal large amounts of carbon build up. This was then cleaned out and put back. Now car is going perfect, maybe even slightly better then before although that could just be my perception.

Unfortunately i still had to wear the cost if a replacement actuator that was in fact proved by the mechanic to be leaking vacuum, a considerable amount though?

My question is, was it necessary to replace the actuator? Could this of been fixed by cleaning out the vanes first?

Yes the actuator was losing vacuum but to the extent I would actually notice it that much?

I'm just thinking in hindsight then maybe i could of saved a few 100 bucks.

If it was leaking, cheaper to replace now than pull it all down and do it later. Don't be shy to give a boot once in a while to keep those vanes moving.

Thanks Gavin. I know VW would of Replaced the complete Turbo and Actuator costing into the $1000's, so I guess in that respective it was a cheaper fix, just hope it lasts! Reference booting it, always give it some every now and again . I do on average 500km a week anyway, so shouldn't have a problem in that department
