do all mk 6 golfs share common suspension and steering mechanicals?
if so wouldnt they all handle the same? (brakes, suspension tuning, alloy wheels/tyres and awd aside)
making the lightest the best handling![]()

Weight is always a factor yes. But different suspension tuning between the performance models and base models is what seals the deal. No point having a light car if its really softly sprung and scrapes door handles along the road if you try going around a corner with any enthusiasm.
I recall reviewers comparing the 90 TSI and 118 TSI models - saying that the 118 was much stiffer through the corners, and that the 90 had more body-roll. The GTI has that X-diff thingo and the R has AWD other tricks I'm sure.
