Supercharger problem

Hi all, I have a manual TSI118 bought in June 09 I think it was manufactured in 08.
It has had the recall reflash done as soon as I got the letter.
I always run on 98 fuel.
Recently I thought that it was feeling a little slugish in 2nd gear occasionally.
Today on the way home from work it felt as if the supercharger has stopped working all together.
At wide open throttle it would rev very slowly from around 2000rpm untit the turbo kicked in at about 3500rpm.
I have no warning lights on the dash.

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?

It looks as though I will have to get it to the dealers asap.

I didn’t drive the car over the weekend but this morning the problem had not gone away.
I am waiting on a call back from the service manager to see what we do next.

The annoying thing is the problem appears to be intermittent.
I hope it shows up when I drop the car in for service.

Would the dealer be able to download a history from the car to show what is occurring??

Yes they will be able to see a history of any faults that of occurred, even if intermittent.

If you Super Charger is truly playing up they may find one of these messages which I have had my car spit out when I have intentionally hobbled mine.

Both occur when the Supercharger is disabled. The first by way of pulling a fuse and the second by disconnecting a lead. If the particular lead had a bad connection you could see an intermittent loss of Super Charger.

Anyway see what they come up with because it could be totally unrelated.

Mine does this. Service techie said they couldn't find anything.

Could be fuel, I experience that problem from time to time on the Subaru, if I run the tank too low and sludge gets into the system it can take a new tank to clean it out and a long highway run. or I go get some Fuel line cleaner and dump it in the tank.. sorts it quick smart.. my 2 cents anyway ( yes I run 98 as well)

That makes no sense... the feed for the fuel tank is at the bottom of the tank. It's always going to pick up "sludge" whether the tank is full or close to empty.

Well whatever I have had bad fuel 4 -5 times and it clears after doing what I said.. debate it if you wish

I'm having the exact problems with my 118TSI Golf. I found that on a hot day, combined with a low fuel tank the supercharger would not and will not engage. Which leaves you with no boost to the engine and a slow crawl to 3500 rpm (turbo time). I believe this is a serious issue that volkswagon needs to look at. As this effect of no boost would be considered pinging (labouring the engine). As it would be dumping alot of fuel into the cyclinders, thinking a large quantity of compressed air is going to mix, which it isn't.

I have taking it into volkswagon and told them about the loss of boost. They had a look and told me it had the wrong ECU code and that they have updated it and everything should be fine. But the problem is still there.

So I'm very worried about this issue I'm having and was wondering did you actually fix the problem and if so how to did you come to a solution.

Supercharger clutches are pretty common to be replaced. robmyster, no need to worry bout excess fuel being dumped in, the car knows there is no boost so will fuel accordingly

No Boost from the supercharger could also be caused by a faulty PCV or DV.
That was the problem in my case with my GT, the PCV failed and the supercharger wasn't able to produce boost. The PCV and DV in the Golf are common points of failure. The Dealer replaced both the PCV and DV to be sure.

As logger has mentioned, the only way to be sure is to VAGCOM it.
