I've been in the 'you've left the sunroof open idiot' scenario quite often but am quick to notice this once I step out of the car. Well, have had my car for 2 1/2 weeks now, and (personally) I've had the sunroof tilted almost every single day while driving and twice fully open. I guess the metaphor of the sunroof being like a spa is true, it's a personal thing and depends on how often you use it. For me, I like the natural breeze when opening the windows are letting in a bit too much.
Also I find that on hot summer days, having it slightly tilted helps keep the interior temperature down.

I love my sunroofs . My last 4 golfs have had them. It's great to parkup somewhere nice and have a bite to eat with the roof open and enjoy the vista. Also makes the cabin a lot lighter. It is important to keep the drain channels clean to prevent blockups and leaks . A sunroof costs about the same as the extra for the 5 door here in the U.K.

The maintenance required to prevent long term blockups and leaks is exactly why they arent for me. Heard of too many horror stories i guess...

On the rare-ish occasions when I want fresh air I just open the window. If it makes too much noise then I also open the window behind me a bit which helps.

My previous car had one. My current car doesn’t. I used it a few times, but to be honest, not worth the money. Above 80 I tend not to use it, and that’s where I spend most of my time. Nice and all, but a bit of a faff. I’d prefer to spend the money on performance.

Like every other option, its personal pref. I use mine EVERY time I get in the car, rain hail or shine! It's the best option for me after DSG!

    +1

My past three cars have had them - I leave it open all the time and only close it by exception if it is going to rain or I am not coming back to the car for a while. Love the fresh air, the way hot air vents out quickly in summer (and doesnt really build up) and the feeling of the roof open on early morning or evening drives.

Yes - definately a personal choice.

I don't have the glass open that often, but I have the shade open on almost every occasion. I only shut it sometimes on hot days if I have to park it outside, and there has been about 2 occasions over summer where I closed the shade because it was just so hot and bright outside. So I use the extra light / openness that it gives every day

I had 3 cars with and thn had one without .... never again
best option possible - especially for small car - feels like you got more room inside coz of the extra light... and very handy to open it a bit (works much better thn just a window)

I have one in my GTI. It's ok. I do use it in tilt mode often. I find that when open conventionally that it has an annoying acoustic "drumming" at certain speeds. This varies with the speed and the degree the roof is open. This can be solved by opening the rear windows slightly. I dont like the fact I have to do this. Never had to on multiple other cars with sunroofs. I think the wind deflector is perhaps a little small.
So in summary, yep I like sunroofs....just not particularly the Golf's. I use the sunroof in my wife's car all the time fully open. In the Golf less so.
It is a minor irritation but an irritation nonetheless. Still love my car though!
