What also needs to be remembered is that speed at indicated 100kph is rarely 100kph. So IMO the only accurate way to determine 0-100 is by GPS or some sort of accelerometer.

Actually - that's a very good point. So any youtube videos claiming '0 to 100 times' are really only 0 to 93km.

Car magazines should hopefully be using proper laser equipment to test these times....

Hadn't thought of that but it is a bloody good point.

Would certainly explain the 6.2/3 times on YouTube.

I would love if somebody tested it with the right gear.. Very curious!

Motor magazine managed 6.52 to 100, and 14.58 for the quarter (they use a vbox to do their acceleration testing). These times were for a 5 door with DSG, ACC and 17s; they didn't specify if launch control was used, but by omission I presume not. Out-accelerated the 3 MPS it was up against, despite a 35kw deficit.

    The GTI is no slouch!

    Wheels Times

    WHEELS January 2010 issue
    0-100 7.16 and 15.02 quarter for GTI

    6.9 and 14.77 for # MPS

They add "These are the quickest times we have achieved in a GTI, by only 0.1sec to the metric ton, but fully ).4 sec over 400metres."

Comments were against their best in a Mk V GTI
You know you are getting old when you cancel your order for a 3.6 CC and buy an Icelandic Gray TDI CC instead.

    DSG or Manual

Manual in wheels test so 6.9 probably looks achievable

These were my results back from November - it's a manual transmission, but a good benchmark.

The manual definitely sounds slower (harder to launch, slower shifts) than the DSG based on the times I've seen quoted, and descriptions from drivers.

Guy's comments back up the assessment that a manual is harder to launch.

BTW Guy, those times you quote were achieved in very hot conditions; presumably a nice cool day (say sub-20 degrees C) would yield much better times, all else being equal?
