xblode I agree - Launch Control cannot do it any good. They have left it off the DSG7 because it is fitted to lower torqued cars, but also so the clutches last the "life" of the car.
In regard the 6.9sec - my lowly 118TSI DSG7 can do that
Details at APR ECU Upgrade MK6 Golf Also had it up to 215 on the dial which isn't bad for 1.4 litres. So I would hope a GTI could beat that easily.

VW are being pretty conservative on the 0 - 100 times. I know MOTOR magazine clocked the GTI at about 6.4 from memory, and the new 3 MPS was 6.5.

I've also seen a number of people state that the GTI makes almost the same power at the wheels as VW claim at the engine (155 kws). I know each dyno is different but these figures may also be slightly conservative.

In addition many manufacturers test their cars with two people on board or extra real world weight in the car.

When I test drove the GTI it did feel similarly quick to my old 3 MPS on my butt dyno.

Yes it's a feature of the car so it should be capable without drastically reducing the life of a DSG box but he advised me against using it.

Using Launch control has never interested me as I reckon it's just too brutal anyway.

I know this is just heresay and the old "a mate of a mate of a mate" story but regardless, I thought I'd mention it.
Funny you say that because i watch a VW presentationon YouTube that they gave to a room full of press when the GTI was being released to the US market and well they also didnt really suggest it be used :|

So there could be some truth in what you said!

Guys.. this is the US version GTI and they are claiming 0-100 in 6.3 seconds.

I've seen 220 (just) - stock 118TSI. I'd imagine with the APR tune you'd go higher, given enough tarmac. As for 0-100, it's always felt faster than the quoted 8secs, but I haven't timed it. Do you know what yours did prior to putting in APR?

220 - Good effort, would have taken a while to wind up to that I imagine. On mine it took a full 8 seconds longer to get from 141kph to 192kph without APR1. See Speed runs compared.

7.6 Stock is what I got so a little under 8.0.

Well, sort of..... VW US put the new EA888 engine (cam chains) into their Mk V GTI ages ago, so they have had the "new" engine for quite a while. So yes, their Mk 6 has the same engine as their later Mk Vs, but it is the same engine as we get in Oz in the Mk 6.

Note that the Golf R and Audi S3 still get the old (cam belt) engine (ie the same as in the Mk V Pirelli and UK Edition 30 models). I don't know when VW will get around to doing a hi-po version of the EA888 engine. From what I read it has more tuning potential than the old engine, so I don't know why they haven't doen it yet (maybe there is a problem that they haven't solved yet ? ).

ohh ok that makes sense.. though there GTI only gets 200hp like our versionof the MK5, thats what lead me to beleive it was the old engine..

But yeah theyare claiming 6.3! If thats the case then fantastic!! hehe
