Hi Guys
My car was in an accident in August 2011.
Got the car back, everything was alright except creaking noises when I turn the steering. Otherwise the power steering feels fine without any heaviness. Initially they though it was the drive arm, which they replaced. Months later, the noise returned with a vengeance. I'm suspecting it could be my steering rack, when I turn my steering it sounds like an old iron door that has not been oiled in years.
The insurance have already paid-out and closed the claim. I have three options, either fight with my repairer to have them resolve this based on their 'guarantee' , take it to my dealership for them assess the problem and pray they don't find any accident relation and repair it under warranty or have this done privately and bear the cost.
Should I go for the latter, anyone have got any idea what the part number is for the steering rack and how much this may cost with or without labour? This is for a MK6 GTI.
Cheers
It may not be a steering rack thats causing the problem. It could be any number of items like suspension bushes or struts.
I'd recommend that you go to a suspension specialist or VW repairer and get it checked out first. It may not be that big an expense.
