Just stumbled on this which shows the VW approved tyres for your car. should be if use I reckon:

    Golf 2009/10

    1.4l 90 kW petrol engine_______offset___chains
    Standard tyres 195/65 R 15 91H_______47___yes
    Modification 195/65 R 15 91V_______47___yes
    Modification 195/65 R 15 91H/V_______50___yes
    Modification 205/60 R 15 91H/V_______47___yes
    Modification 205/55 R 16 91H/V/W_______50___No
    Modification 225/45 R 17 91H/V/W_______54___No
    Modification 225/45 R 17 91H/V/W*_______51___No
    Modification 225/40 R 18 92Y**_______51___No

    * 225/45 R 17 91H/V/W tyres on 71/2 J x 17 wheels with offset 51 are only possible in combination with sports running gear!
** 225/40 R 18 92Y tyres on 71/2 J x 18 wheels with offset 51 is permitted only on vehicles with sports running gear and rear axle camber of -1°45' !

Note the comment about rear axle camber of -1°45'.

Thanks for this logger but I'm not entirely sure what they meant. Where did you get this information from mate?

The tires I got for my car are Khumo U31 SPT 225/40 R 18 92Y but the offset of my wheels is ET 45. Before I bought my wheels I check with the guys at VRM wheels and they told me this fitment should be perfect for my car ???

So it looks like they are not suitable for my car after all? (i'll be very piss off if they are not)

The offset of your wheels will depend on their width (in inches)

...and on a slightly related topic, what about the caption on the tacho?

    "1/min"

1 what per minute? Rev, Elephant, Banana?

    Why not "Rev/min"?
