Interesting stuff. My TSi MFD is the same as the analogue gauge, which is 6% slower than the GPS (and Ive tested 2 GPSs against it)
The odometer is spot on when tested against the 5KM test "tracks" on the highway
Keeps the brain active calculating 6% error and driving to that. OR - believe the GPS. OR - just don't speed

Yeah Brian, my MFD speedo and analog speedo are identical too. But I know a lot of people here have mentioned that their's are not. I think that it may have been changed to be identical at MY09 or something like that as it used to be a common thing newbies would post about...

Ditto for me - analogue and digital speedo are the same - although the digital sometimes lags the needle by a couple of seconds.

At an indicated 110kmh the GPS says I am doing 104kmh... so the speedo is reading 6kmh high at that speed - but around 80kmh is only 4 or 5 out, so it seems to work on a percentage. I've been through speed traps at an indicated 121kmh (actual 115kmh) and the police were not interested.

The odometer is accurate when measured against the 5km marks on the highway.

Yep, it's definitely a percentage. That's why we recommend 100km/h so that it's obvious what that % is. You could do it at any speed of course, but harder to work out in your head

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a fixed margin plus a percentage, to be honest. My observations suggest that's the case with my car.

Just tried the average speed trick and found out that my GTI is about 6% out
