With the carbon filter, you will find them selling on Amazon or ebay. There is a part number at the website pointed out above. Just copy, paste and search.

I always wipe down every corner of the car body and around the doors/doors edges after a car wash. My floor mats do get slightly moist when I wipe them down every few weeks depending on how dirty they are but they have never been soaked yet. If that does happen I will definately leave them outside to dry.

A friend recommended this: I purchased a disinfectant spray from coles and sprayed the inside of the car while the air con was running in recirculation mode. Left the car running for a few minutes. Hopefully this kills the germs causing the odour even if it is temporary. I'll just keep on doing that until the next service.

    Hi jrgti,

You are not allone with this problem.

I had the aircon sprayed with a anti fungal spray several times and replaced the cabin filter as well. It will take several attempts to get the smell of old gym socks out of the airco. I have looked to buy a spray myself but could only get airfreshener types in the shops. So everytime I have to got to the dealer (service, waterpump, clutchpacks) I'll ask them to use some off their stuff. Also I think it helps if you turn off the airco 5 min before your arrive at your destination to let it 'dry-out'

    Smelly air

I have tried to search for this topic, but had no joy, so apologies if it's been covered already.

The last month or so I've noticed that if I have the fan on there's is an odour that comes through the vents that resembles for want of a better description, smelly feet.

When I put the AC on, the smell isn't present.

Has anyone else had this issue?

I'm guessing that it's something to do with the air filters, does anyone else have a suggestion please?

The only smell I've noticed occurs immediately after use of the A/C. It's more like the smell of acetic acid or film developer. It usually disappears after a couple of minutes.

I would suggest setting off a disinfectant anti-bacteria bomb in the car, with the air con on, on re-circulate, and windows up. Once you've done this, you'll need to replace the pollen filter.

The housing the air conditioner evaporator lives in does often store moisture. While there's a drain that lets it run out onto the road, it's never sufficient enough.

Replacing the cabin filter should fix it. Make sure it's the carbon filter (grey in colour).

Since WA has had hot weather I have noticed the past few days that when the AC is first on is smelly like washing that has been left in the machine and gone sour... the smell goes away but its pretty horrid. Car going in for warranty work next week so maybe I will get them to check the pollen filter.

Just out of curiousity...where is the pollen filter located on the MK6? I had a MK4 and had to access it from the engine bay.
